This is a Google Slides Financial Literacy mini unit on Smart Consumerism. Students will learn about comparison shopping and calculating the price per item to determine the best deal. They will also learn to keep track of a budget to make smart spending choices. At the end of the unit students will apply their knowledge in a virtual store project. Each student will create their own virtual store using Google Slides, which will form a class virtual mall. Students will sell and buy products, enticing customers with deals and keeping track of the money they spend. This project was a huge hit in my class! Includes 6 Google Slide Mini Lessons: Lesson 1- Determining the best value- calculating price per item Lesson 2- Determining the best value- considering factors other than price Lesson 3- Determining the best value- comparing deals Lesson 4- Keeping Track of a Budget Lesson 5- Setting up a Virtual Store Lesson 6- Virtual Store Project Reflection * also included: virtual store templates for students, student balance sheet, virtual store project instructions. Examples of SMART Goals is a full unit of study focuses on National Health Education Standards 1, 2 and 6. The first 3 lessons explore the concepts of healthy eating, physical activity, sleep and screen time. Students learn the basics, assess their current behaviors and analyze influences. Each lesson includes multiple opportunities for movement, student handouts, detailed lesson notes and teaching materials. Next, students complete two additional lessons to learn about SMART goals and apply what they've learned to 4 different case studies; allowing the teacher to check for understanding and the student to practice setting SMART goals. Finally, students take on a personal health goal of their own. They set a series of staged targets, identify possible barriers, enlist the support of trusted adults, design detailed plans and monitor and reflect on progress. Students have access to four sample goals and plans as well as related infographics. This unit includes 6 lessons. Depending on pacing, this unit will take 10-15 hours of instructional time.
