TweetHere in New York City, the weather is shifting from hot humid summer, to the cool crisp days of fall (my favorite time of year) and the seasonal cycle of nature prompted me to look at artists who work with natural elements. Born in 1956, Andy Goldsworthy is a British sculptor, photographer, and environmentalist living in Scotland who has created sublime and beautiful works of art made up of only natural materials. Most images below come from the Andy Goldsworthy Digital Catalogue at the University of Glasgow, Crichton Campus, Dumfries, which documents works created from 1976-1986. Andy gently shapes leaves, snow, ice, twigs, feathers, rocks, and other elements, and blurs the line between natural and man-made beauty. In a 2001 documentary directed by Thomas Riedelsheimer called Rivers and Tides, Goldsworthy discusses how working with nature roots him, and how time away from his work makes him feel rootless. Although the view from my apartment window looks out over a brick and concrete city landscape, Andy's images are so potent I can practically smell the icy snow, the wet leaves, and the damp earth. If, like me, you can't get enough of his work, you can browse through literally thousands of his photographs here at sculpture.org.uk. . Andy Goldsworthy Green Leaves . There is a deep and meaningful beauty found in nature. Scottish sculptor Andy Goldsworthy has been taking this beauty and adding his own artistic touch to it to bring to life pictures that have been labeled transient and ephemeral. His approach is to “interrupt, shape, or in some other way temporarily alter or work with […]

Here's a one-of-a-kind driftwood wall hanging. This rock mobile would look amazing in any rustic boho home or in an earthy styled bedroom. A great nature inspired gift for mom, friends, or yourself!! I picked these rocks and driftwood from the Canadian shores of Lake Superior. The rocks are hand wrapped with metal wire and tied to a piece of driftwood with white cord and fishing line. Be careful with the fishing line - it tangles easily if moved (I wrap each line in paper before shipping to ensure no tangles)! The dimensions are 48 x 42 centimetres. #039

My feather wands are created intuitively using the finest hand selected feathers and adorned with crystals, stones, beads, mugwort and other sacred natural materials. I do not purchase feathers. You will only find feathers from my personal collection from years of collecting from the earth, ethically, during spring moulting season. I don't always have an abundance, but when I do I am called to create spiritual tools. I do not support the sale of bulk feathers. Your feather wand is an important tool when working to cleanse negative energy from the body, and spaces such as homes, offices and even cars. Simply burn your chosen plant material (you can make or buy sage, mugwort, rosemary, palo Santo etc sticks) and use the feathers to spread the sacred smoke around your space or body. When sealing and cleansing your home, move through each room fanning smoke into the corners. Once finished, open windows and doors and let the breeze remove the remaining unwanted energy. This ritual is powerful in cleansing your home and creating rock solid protective boundaries. I also like to fan the corners of my property for extra protection. When smudging yourself or others, move from the feet, up towards the face, then back over the head and down the back. Some people like to repeat a mantra or chant, or you can simply let the wand do its work. Always remember to lightly shake your wand towards the Earth after each smudging session to cleanse and rebalance your wand. Mother Earth will quickly and easily neutralise unwanted energy. Caring for your wand: Keep it protected and safe from pets. The feathers will become messy if brushed the wrong way from moving them around (possibly from the post) or placing them in bags (don't do this). If this happens gently stroke them back into place with light pinched fingers. Treat your wand with the greatest respect. It's best to lean it on a large crystal, shell, or stone when not in use. Basically try not to rest the feathers on anything solid when not in use.
