This original stone lithograph was created by Stow Wengenroth (1906-1978) who was active/lived in New York and Massachusetts. He was known for lithography, coastal and landscape painting. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Stow Wengenroth studied at the Art Students League and Grand Central Art School. He lived and worked for many years on Long Island and then moved to Rockport, Massachusetts. This lithograph depicts the outside of a Maine church. It is titled "The Church" and was done in 1947. The lithograph is signed in pencil by the artist, lower right, edition of 60 indicated lower left. It is noted a printer's proof and the property of "GBS". The paper size measures 19" x 12 1/2". The image area is 15 3/8" x 11 1/4". This lithograph is in good condition. There is some toning from the previous matting material. There is a light "scratch" mark in the middle of the print, most likely a defect in the lithography stone. The "scratch" mark is visible in the book "The Lithographs by Stow Wengenroth" by Stuckey, so it is not unique to this print. It is a light mark and does not affect the artistic value of the image. There is a small piece of tape on the back from previous mounting. Wengenroth was a master lithographer and his lithographs are highly collectible. This piece would make a great addition to any art collection.

This genealogy presents nine generations in the male line of descent from Thomas Derby of Stow, Massachusetts. Little reliable data exists for Thomas Derby prior to 1684, when Thomas removed from Concord, Massachusetts to Stow. He served under Capt. Joseph Sill as a Narragansett soldier in King Philip's War (1676). Thomas Darby was granted a lot in Stow, June 17, 1684; Thomas Daby was elected as a deacon of the Stow Church, 1706. He is known to have fathered seven children before the death of his wife, Mary, in 1727. Thomas is believed to have died before December 29, 1749. His descendants are traced through the families of his two sons, John (b. 1687) and Robert (d. 1759). A section of the text is devoted to nineteen Derby families not conclusively placed in the lines discussed. The original index of full names has been retained for this edition. Viola A.
