In about 1300 Sir John de Broughton built his manor house in a sheltered site at the junction of three streams and surrounded it with a substantial moat. In 1406 it was "crenellated and embattled’, allowing the house to be called a castle. Over the years the castle was taken by the Royalists during the Civil War after a brief seige, and went through a series of ups and downs due to the squandering of family fortunes.

Happy New Year everyone! :) Taking this picture was annoying. My mom bought me a new tripod for christmas and we were trying to put it together for at least 2 hours and couldnt figure it out and i was quickly running out of sunlight so I decided to just use my other tripod and once I actually got to this spot I realized that I forgot it in the car which was about a mile away. I only had about 10 minutes left of light so i stuck my camera in the dirt and began shooting and then my battery ended up dying a few minutes later... I was afraid I didnt take enough shots to get a decent picture but Im somewhat pleased with how it turned out. This was inspired by Sarah Ann Loreth for her contest :) Also today is my last night of being a teenager.. I turn 20 tomorrow. I dont want to grow up.

Pewits Nest State Natural Area is a nature reserve of Wisconsin, USA, that includes a deep gorge formed during the retreat of the last glacier. Pewits Nest is outside of Baraboo in Sauk County. At one time a waterwheel and mill were located on the site and "an individual lived in the solid sandstone, like a gnome in a cavern." The name of the site was a result of early settlers calling it "Peewit's Nest" after the abode, ten feet above a deep pool of water, resembling the nest of a phoebe (or peewit, an earlier name for this bird). The water-wheel once turned lathes for repairing or manufacturing equipment, but no evidence of it remains. Pewits Nest is owned by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and was designated a State Natural Area in 1985. When Glacial Lake Baraboo drained, Skillet Creek cut a narrow canyon through the Cambrian sandstone, forming a number of potholes and waterfalls. The creek that runs through the cliff is Skillet Creek. The layers of Cambrian sandstone show that finer-grained sediment was laid down by the Cambrian seas, Sandstones are found in layers. Forest cover includes red cedar, white pine, red pine, and yellow birch.
