A dinner party is about more than just cocktails and candles.
Is it too early to be planning my marbled spring table?! I think not and with some sunny days in my kitchen I have been creating some new styles and tablescapes. After the berry reds and forest greens of Christmas I'm enjoying bright colours.

Thank you all so much for your kind words on my Everything Home Magazine feature! You all are the most supportive and encouraging readers around, and I'm so thankful to have you along on this journey with me! Today I thought you might enjoy seeing how my tables usually come together. I took some time when assembling this one to take step by step photos of each layer that went on the table. I think that's one of the keys to a pretty table... layers! I'll elaborate a little on each step- 1) Base- this can be a runner, tablecloth, placemats, or I'm just using pieces of fabric more and more often. I decide the size I want the piece to be, then iron the edges under for a crisp, even finish. Sometimes I use a little bit of masking or painter's tape underneath to hold the edges in place (just make sure to iron first, then tape so your tape doesn't turn into a sticky mess on your fabric). Sometimes I even have full tablecloths that I'd rather use as a runner, so I fold them into the desired size and iron down as well. 2) Plate stack- Regardless of your base, I think a good plate stack adds some needed heft to each place setting. I almost ALWAYS use a charger (or woven round placemat) to add some visual weight to each place, then build plates on top of that. For pretty photos, I stack a bunch of plates of varying sizes together, but obviously for the meal those plates would be separated and just used for each appropriate course. 3) Napkins and flatware- There are so many different ways to arrange the napkin... in a ring, in a simple fold to the side, a fancy fold, with an embellishment, folded under the plates... the options are limitless! 4) Centerpiece- I like big, dramatic pieces in the center of the table, but just so you know they always get moved when it's time for the meal so we can see each other. ;) 5) Lastly, add glasses and any other little accessories that you'd like to use like salt and pepper shakers, butter dishes, etc. DIY Candelabra Tutorial I shared my DIY pom pom napkin rings with you a few weeks ago, and obviously this is where they ended up! That's all there is to it! I really stick to using what I have, but have a decent supply of dishes and accessories to mix and match. Most are staples, though, with a wide variety of uses. I'll share those with you in the future. Check out my previous Easter tables for even more inspiration where I used exactly the same process... here's last years- And previous years- Clockwise from top left 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 *If you enjoyed this post and found it helpful, I sure would appreciate a pin of this image or any other in the post! :) Linking up with Thrifty Decor Chick

It is officially lilac season in these parts and so I thought I'd combine my love of these wonderful purple blooms with my other love of sunny yellow lemons for a spring tablescape. I rounded up all the items I wanted to use and discovered the combination of the two colours definitely look terrific together! And thus, a lilacs and lemons tablescape was born! Anyone who has ever tried to arrange fresh lilacs knows they are very messy! So I decided to use some realistic faux lilacs I've had for quite awhile and they paired perfectly with the faux lemons. I started with this lemon patterned table runner which was a recent purchase on Amazon. Next, I layered some faux greenery garland and tucked the faux lilacs and lemons in here and there. I also added some battery operated string lights. I like this type of centerpiece because everyone at the table gets the same view and no sight lines are blocked. The place settings were then coordinated with the centerpiece. I started with purple placemats which are actually dish towels turned length-ways so that they drape over the table. These lemon patterned cloth napkins were also from Amazon. They were tucked inside a purple compote dish. I made lilac placecards using Clipart on my computer. A metal butterfly (part of an old metal wreath I took apart) was clipped on the edge of the dish. The dish stack includes a white charger plate and yellow dinner plate topped with a white salad plate. And for good measure, I added another little green appetizer plate. :) The little green plates hold an extra embellishment of lilacs and lemons. The compote dishes were then added. Green handled flatware coordinated with the greenery on the table. These lemon glasses that are on loan from my mom were the perfect stemware choice. I've set the table for a ladies luncheon which unfortunately likely won't be happening anytime soon due to social distancing... ...but I'm going to remember this idea for future consideration next spring when we can hopefully gather again and celebrate just being together! Are lilacs in bloom where you are? Their lovely scent and colour are so uplifting and a good reminder that spring has returned and the seasons continue to change despite the world situation.
