Nottingham Tram - 0.3mm sketching pen
A version of an old photograph hand *colourised (if you want to use it please credit me and link to this description) by me, of London Transport (LT) E/1 class trams No. 595 showing '68 - Waterloo Stn via Tower Bridge Rd' destination indicators and No. 589 showing '70'. The original BnW photo is here:- flic.kr/p/2mi8HZi Modern day google maps street view:- tinyurl.com/yuej2x72 Thanks to JB (KK 69521) for the location, the 1951 OS map, and other route information:- www.flickr.com/photos/fred_bear/51389715367/#comment72157... The photo reverse is stamped with the photographer (and/or negative owner) name of A. D. Packer, and with the name J. L. Mack. Nos. 595 and 589 were ex London County Council Tramways (LCC) cars, both built in 1930 by English Electric seating 27/46 and running on Mountain & Gibson maximum traction class 4.LCC trucks, from new they had trolley poles plus a plough carrier to run off overhead or conduit (they are running off conduit in this photo). These particular trams were known as 'Reconstructed Subway Cars', because when built they took the fleet number, trucks, and electrical equipment from class F and G single deck cars that had run through the Kingsway Subway before its temporary closure to be enlarged to take double deck cars. Their ownership transferred to the London Passenger Transport Board (LPTB) in 1933 and in 1939 both had driver screens (driver/platform vestibules) fitted. In Aug 1951 they were withdrawn from service and sent to Penhall Road Works to be disposed of (broken up or sold), the parts of the London tramways system that had not already been withdrawn or transferred to trolleybus/bus operation closed in Jul 1952. * My coloured images are more sketch or watercolour like than colour transparency or print like. They are an impression of that subject and period, rather than an accurate representation of how the image/subject actually looked when the photo was taken. If there are any errors in the above description please let me know. Thanks. 📷 Any photograph I post on Flickr is an original in my possession, nothing is ever copied/downloaded from another location. 📷 -------------------------------------------------
