Hey y'all and welcome to my second tatting pattern. This is a free shuttle tatting pattern for a lace bookmark. I call it a lace bookmark, because it looks like lace. And because tatting is a form of lace-making. Tatting to me is the easiest type of lace-making you can start. I love reading and

Tatted Christmas Tree A lovely Christmas Tree pattern suitable for beginners, with pine-tree like picot needles. A perfect ornament for the holidays! Rings, Picots and Chains is all it is. I prefer…
I had meant to post these right after Christmas, but got busy with other things. Anyway, here is the tatting I did for Christmas 2014. Done in Lizbeth size 80, #601, #638, and #671. Motif #21. I love how this one turned out! It's the December 2013 Snowflake, by Sharon. When I was looking at the pattern, I thought it would look nice if done in three colors. This is a pattern that I would definitely do again. Done in Lizbeth size 20, #152 and #671. Motif #22. I really enjoyed the Design Tutorial Snowflake, by Robin Perfetti, It is a pretty pattern that reminds me of a wreath (hence my color choices). Done in Lizbeth size 20, #152. This Snowflake 2 is another of Sharon's patterns. This was an easy pattern to tat, which is quite nice to do in between more difficult patterns. Done in Lizbeth size 20, #152 and # 671. Motif #23. The Celtic Style Christmas Wreath pattern is by Birgit Phelps. I haven't done much Celtic style tatting patterns, but I might look into more now that I've done this pattern. I tatted the full pattern, and then tatted some without the final row. Celtic style wreath, without the last row. Why did I tat some without the final row? Because I thought they looked nice both ways. Done in Lizbeth size 20, #151. The Five-Pointed Star is from the book Christmas Angels and Other Tatting Patterns, by Monica Hahn. Whenever I look at this pattern, I'm reminded of starfish. Done in Lizbeth size 20, #152. Motif #24. The Star of Leaves pattern is also from Christmas Angels and Other Tatting Patterns, by Monica Hahn. This was probably one of the more difficult patterns for me. I don't use a gauge to measure the bare thread (or picot lengths, for that matter) so the bare thread between each level of the points had me a bit nervous. Done in Lizbeth size 20, #152. Now, the name I have for this pattern is Snowflake 16. Unfortunately, the pattern I have saved only has some pictures and the pattern, not who designed it. So if anyone recognizes where this is from, I would love to know. It's a pretty pattern, and enjoyed how all of the rings came together. Done in size 10. This angel is from a Nativity pattern by Jenni Sherriff. I plan on doing the rest of this pattern at a later date. Done in Lizbeth size 20, #633, #640, and #647. Motif #25. I love how this Tea Cup and Saucer pattern turned out. This is a pattern that I've been wanting to do for a long time, and one that I would do again and again. I didn't connect the tea cup to the saucer, so you lift the tea cup up. It's just an adorable pattern. And with it, my first 25 Motif Challenge is completed! It was an exciting challenge, which allowed me to tat twenty-five patterns I had never done before. I've enjoyed the challenge, and am going to begin my second challenge immediately. Letters done in Lizbeth size 20, #656, and #657. Roses done in DMC size 30, yellow. Sewn onto muslin. This was the big project. My family drew names for Christmas, and I got my Grandfather. I decided to tat letters to spell Families are Forever, and then frame it. I used the letter patterns from The Tatters' Paradise again, and then tatted some roses using Vicki Clarke's Roses are Red pattern. The most time consuming part of this project was the sewing. I do not like sewing. But it was worth the effort, because my Grandfather loved it.

I'm sure you are all wondering where I have been lately. Well, truth to tell, I've been VERY busy with the local Farmers Market which is *planning* on staying open until mid December (weather permitting and we don't get a lot of snow) Not only am I taking my tatted jewelry to the Market, I've been taking all of the cards I have made, the bags that I have made and I have been baking like a silly fool every week and taking cookies galore! This week I had a new cookie plus 3 batches of fresh (home made) bagels and 2 batches of scones! :-O I won't be making cookies this week but I will be making more bagels and scones to take as they sold realllly well. The following week I start making Christmas cookies to take to the Market...yes, it is getting close isn't it? This week I also started taking Christmas ornaments that I have been making. These two baubles are my first baubles, but I'm sure more will follow. This first one is made with the pattern Tat A Winter Star, done in size 20 Lizbeth thread. In addition to the pattern I added a ring of 6-6 with an iridescent dagger bead dangling form the picot. I attached it to the longest picot of each "arm" with silver jump rings. I draped it over a plastic bauble using small drops of Liquid Fusion on the under side (at the junction on the clover) to keep it in place. Tat a Winter Star on a Bauble This next bauble is the Windows & Wheels Ornament, done in size 20 Lizbeth. To make the glass ball glitter, I poured a little bit of floor wax inside the bauble, swirled it all around then dumped out the extra and sprinkled in two different sizes (large and micro fine) iridescent glitter. Swirled that around then dumped out any extra there and let dry. I was asked at the Market if I could make the above snowflake on a glass ball like the one below. So now I need to make it to a store and get some more glass balls (this one was my last...sigh) and make some more baubles. Windows & Wheels Ornament I REALLY like the way this looked as I was tatting it and thought it would make a GREAT necklace! I'm adding a bead to the center of the center ring, seed beads to the 4 picots on the bottom of the outside ring and a dagger bead dangling from the picot of the bottom ring (the pattern is doubled for the bauble). I have it started, using size 20 Lizbeth in color # 158 (Niagra Falls) with the center bead matching exactly the darkest of the aqua/turqouise colors and copper seed beads and dagger bead. I will be sure to post a picture of it when I get it finished.

While perusing my blog list, I saw some lovely Holiday patterns using beads. I'm not too familiar with beads in tatting (not a big jewelry fan) so I brushed up on techniques by watching Karen Cabrera's tutorials. Here are a few pieces that I tatted: The snowflake is Frivole's "Bentley" which can be found in her Etsy shop. I saw this on her blog a few weeks ago and thought it was very pretty, especially with the beads in the center. I suggested that we do a pattern swap (her latest snowflake for my latest snowflake) and luckily she obliged! I've already hung it up on the tree. The Swarovski crystals are perfect for a snowflake. I can't help but wonder all of the possibilities for these crystals in snowflake design. The next piece is Renulek's Advent Wreath. You can find the pattern notes on her blog post here. There are a lot of beads in this one, and I think the ones I chose are too large and heavy for the thread. They cause the wreath to distort when held in an upright manner. Maybe I can tack the pattern down and display it on the top of a box or in a picture frame.

I have been busy tatting for Christmas. I always seem to wait until the last possibly time to start on items I want to tat before Christmas and this year was no exception. I did manage to get quite a bit done though. With all the new Lizbeth threads, I had a hard time deciding what to use first. I wasn't sure how I felt about the color - Blue River Glades, but after I tatted with it, it has become one of my favorite colors. The blues and greens are so rich in color, I just love how this motif and earrings turned out. The motif that I made into a pendant is a pattern by Mark Myers, Shuttle Motif. The earrings are by Jennifer Williams. Click on her name and then go to patterns and here is the direct link to the earrings. These Tatted Christmas Tree Earrings are a favorite of mine to tat. I tat at my Library on Thursdays. There is a crochet group that meets on Thursday afternoon and I asked if I could come tat while they crocheted. Then a knitter asked if she could come, so we keep growing in size. Anyway, I had been tatting these tree earrings and three of the ladies asked if they could buy a pair of the earrings. They are quick and easy to tat. The Christmas tree earrings are a pattern by Brenda Bonilla and the pattern was in an old Knots Newsletter. I normally tat these in the solid green color, but this year I tried the very pretty variegated Lizbeth thread Christmas Green Mix 152. I'm not sure which color I like more now. The solid or the variegated??? Last but not least is a pendant set made in another new Lizbeth thread, Autumn Spice -136. This is such an awesome color and Yarnplayer's Tatted Leaf pattern looks great in this thread. The Celtic Motif I tatted as the pendant is a pattern by Rosemarie Peel "Tatting for Pleasure." I have gotten many compliments on this set when I wear it. Front Side Back Side I still have more tatting to show, but I'll save it for another post. Happy Holidays!
