（大紀元記者徐小雲台灣台南報導）台灣屬溫溼之地，古時醫學不發達，早期開墾須與瘟疫搏鬥，遂有祭拜瘟神，免除災禍的風俗，民間普遍有王爺信仰。王爺就是瘟神的俗稱，藉著作王醮儀式，驅趕瘟疫。燒王船是王醮最後祭儀，通常將王船送至溪邊或海邊空地焚化。
