The name comes from that of Châtillon-sur-Marne in Champagne, where members of the family were tenants in a castle belonging to the Counts of Champagne. It is with this inspiration that the House of Châtillon Antiqued French Limestone was created. The House of Châtillon Antiqued French Limestone Floors - quarried from Northern France - has provenance of colors unique to this region. These stones - used since the Medieval Ages - can be found in a variety of structures - from Medieval castle floors to century old churches. From dark and light tones of oak to gray and gray blue to golden ochre tones and ivory - it's these color variations that set themselves apart as an authentic stone where wind swept beaches hail from the North Sea. With over 700 years of history - from ramparts, fortified gates and the Yvoire Castle - it is classified among the Most Beautiful Villages in France. We were lucky to have salvaged this historic lot of French reclaimed terra cotta tile hexagons from this vicinity. From a dilapidated structure of an old farm that was once used for storing tools - the patina on this clay feels ancient. Not 700 years old ancient - but absolutely a good couple of centuries. The color variations - due to a hot wood-firing kiln - created an array of hues - from stone and earth to cream, gray, olive and clay.
