The Brookes slave ship plan first published in 1788 and portrayed slaves arranged on the ship’s lower deck and poop deck. The image, in accordance with the Regulated Slave Trade Act of 1788, depicted the conditions that reportedly allowed to slavers to stow 454 African slaves, by allowing a space of 6 feet, or less, per person.
