The Fountain of Goof (F.O.G.) Tv Network A “Bobbing for Apples” Moment I was invited to visit a newly built mall the other decade ago or so by 3 friends who wanted to visit the new Apple Computer Store. I hesitated at first, then thoughts about the cookie/bakery shop would be more fun! “Yes! Ok. Let's go.” When we arrived, my Cookie Monster cap was already neatly placed on my head and I happily strolled towards a tasty chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin “off the diet” treat. My friends were too anxious to go inside the Apple store and check out the awesome new “state of the art” technology that recently rolled out the factory. Again, I hesitated...then said “Ok...wiped the drool off the side of my mouth thinking, “Just a little bit longer Esther...and...a chocolate and an oatmeal cookie will be mine!” “Yes!” Since I was previously employed at a famous central Texas computer company, I was genuinely impressed at the displays, the neatness, spacious white deco inside the store. My friends immediately went about and started to browse. I didn't realize I was still standing by the entrance observing, admiring and guessing each device must cost a fortune. Two neatly dressed young men approached and welcomed me to the Apple Store. “How can we help you? Are you needing a new laptop, desktop, cellphone...parts, supplies, tech support...a price list, job application...directions to the restroom?” “Do you have any specific questions?” “Just ask us anything...anything at all...we will assist you!” Their smart-ass, boasting and geeky attitude approach reminded me of myself back in the days when attending Texas State University and employed as a computer programmer analyst. I removed my “Cookie Monster” cap (in my mind) and replaced it with a Detective Goren hat (from the Law and Order tv series)...tilted my head slightly to the side and asked, “Yes...I'm not an autobiography/biography reader, but I wonder...Why did Steve Jobs name his company Apple?” Their smiles slowly diminished as they looked at each other...and...I suspect...waited for the other to answer my question. A brief moment later, one of the representives politely responded, “You know...I really don't know, but is there anything else we can help you with?” “No, I'm going to look around though. Thank you...I appreciate it.” After looking at the awesome devices, graphical user interfaces and speediness of its internet service, I stepped outside...replaced my Detective Goren hat with my Cookie Monster cap and finally purchased my long awaited chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies...sat at a comfortable outside cafe-style area table and enjoyed the rest of the morning.
