Summer Patio is situated in “Zapovedniy Bor” village estate in a natural reserve on former hunting grounds, close to Nerskaya river. The village is surrounded by a pine forest with clean air. All of the houses are built of wood, which correlates with lovely ecological environment of the location. Picturesque landscape with tall pines and the client’s lifestyle inspired the idea for Patio’s composition and image: small structures, attached to one another, merge in a whole system with the scenery in a way where nature overrules the site.

Our backyard underwent a major transformation this summer. We added a sprawling deck to our backyard and furnishings and finally, built an outdoor fireplace as the finishing touch. As a reminder, just a few months ago, the space looked like this: We went between the idea of fire pit vs fireplace, but in the end […]

Architectural design is limited only by the imagination. Translating that design sometimes has constraints as Jorn Utzen discovered with the Sydney Opera House. Fortunately, building technologies continue to challenge new frontiers allowing those imaginations ever broader scope. In this album, we present some new and not so new buildings that we consider rather exceptional. See if you agree.Click on any image to start lightbox display.Use your Esc key to close the lightbox. Lakeside escape for outdoors lovers, with on-tap winter sports, farm-to-table cuisine and in-room spa treatments Lake Placid Lodge looms like a mansion on the edge of Lake Placid. Wrapped in dense forest and flanked by majestic mountains and rivers, this is a great destination for removing yourself from the daily hustle and bustle. And yet, in this quiet corner of the world, there is also the option of running yourself ragged with outdoor activities — and that’s exactly what most guests come here to do. But the outdoor scenes and available activities deserve only half the accolades. The lodge itself deserves the rest. Rustic-chic interiors and a grand scale create the impression of being a guest at a friend's fabulous hunting lodge.

Tudor inspiration, Blue Ridge backdrops and European lodge-style cuisine The Grand Bohemian doesn’t use the term “grand” lightly. A towering stone fireplace and dark wood pillars preside over gleaming wood-paneled walls, gilt-framed oil paintings and buttery leather armchairs in the Tudor-inspired lobby. Contemporary cocktails curtail that post-dinner thirst, while the meal itself lines up creative hearty fare like elk carpaccio or bison ribeye with blueberry demiglace. Rooms have a lighter, more modern touch with tufted velvet headboards, desks inspired by vintage trunks and antlers curled around metal lamps. Expect to be pampered with Matelasse linens, LCD TVs, Bose alarm clocks, DVDs players and bathrooms with rainfall showers and, in most, oversized soaking tubs.
