A couple of years after I had moved to Holland, I heard through the grapevine that The Police were going to be in Amsterdam for a performance on Rock Planet. I’d heard great things about them through Cream magazine, but they were not a well-known act yet. As I entered the studio, So Lonely was blaring through the studio speakers as the band […]

The purest, most authentic moment a music fan can experience is to be present at the inception of a sound. If you’re lucky enough to be the right age, in the right proximity and in the proper mindset…
The Misfits helped kick-start all things horror-punk in the late ‘70s, but the classic lineup didn’t last. They split in 1983 and 12 years later, bassist Jerry Only and guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein actually secured the rights to tour and release music without iconic singer Glenn Danzig. Here are other bands who have reunited […]

The drummer was brought up in the Middle East – not realising that his father Miles was a spy sent to destabilise the region. But, he says, it was Miles’s claim that the Police were a psy-ops outfit that upset Sting

It doesn't matter how big of a crush your mom STILL has on Sting — you've been singing about him trying to save a hooker since you had training wheels.

Ah, the '80s ... a little disco, a lot of punk, some old retreads soldiering onward....
The Police circa 1978. A huge tip of my hat goes out to the excellent Boston-based music and culture blog Vanyaland and their equally excellent editor-in chief Michael Marotta for posting this previously unseen footage of The Police performing at legendary Boston club “The Rat” (or the Rathskeller if you prefer) back in 1978. The footage was captured during the band’s four-night stand at the Rat in October just before Halloween. The legendary ‘Rathskeller.’ During the club’s heyday it played host to pretty much every band you’ve ever loved like Mission of Burma, Thin Lizzy, the Ramones, Sonic Youth, Talking Heads and the subjects of this post, The Police are just a few off the top of my head. Local rock and roll radio station WBCN (where yours truly got her start as an engineer and producer during the late 80s) was championing the single “Roxanne” from the band’s 1978 debut Outlandos d’Amour which was also rotating heavily on college radio airwaves. According to Jan Cocker who shot the footage, nobody—not the band themselves—has ever seen it. Until now. Shot with one camera using a low-light Cocker was able to piece the vintage...

Sting, like Madonna or Cher, is one of those fascinating mythical one-name-only creatures that only gets better once you go down the rabbit hole. It doesn't get much deeper than a night with James Lipton on 'Inside the Actors Studio.' We've gathered the five most surprising and fascinating things about Sting we learned from that magical evening. Here's an early photo of flower child Goldie Hawn back in the 60's. Hawn's career began in the short-lived CBS situation comedy Good Morning, World, but really took off on the sketch comedy show, Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. This is where her reach grew and garnered her some much deserved international attention.
"Every Breath You Take" re-imagines the classic 1983 Police smash hit as the cover of a 1950's-era science fiction novel, specifically the Ace edition of Philip K. Dick's Eye in the Sky. This is a fine art giclee print on acid free, 330gsm, 100% cotton rag paper with a bright smooth finish. Watermark does not appear on finished print. Prints come in four sizes: 11x8.5, 17x11, 24x18 and 36x24. Please be aware that all prints feature a white border to help with framing your item. Depending on which size print you order, this border may be wider on the top and bottom than on the sides. I recommended that you wait until you have your print in hand before you shop for a frame. The perfect gift for the Police / Sting fan in your life!
