The Lady of Haschisch I've been a fan of Santiago Caruso's work for more than a decade now. I came across his work for the first time when I was 22 years old and, to witness such a talent on a guy my age (we were both born in 1982) was devastating. Completely heartbreaking. I'm 35 now, and I make a

Ingeborg Katarina Norell, born Stenborg, 1727, apparently in Borgå, was a Finnish craftsman's wife. She was the first woman in Finland to be awarded a medal for saving a life. Norelli's father is said to have been Hans Stenborg, a saddle maker from Borgå. She married in 1764 the goldsmith Carl Gustaf Norell, formerly Norelius (1738-1782), with whom she had three children. The Norell couple lived first in Borgå and then in Fredrikshamn until 1768. After her husband's death in 1782, Norell travelled to Pojo, but her further life is unknown. On April 8, 1780, an accident occurred in the village of Tenhola in Germundi, when a two-year-old girl fell into a well and was thought to have drowned. 53-year-old Norell happened to be there. She had read an almanac published by the predecessor of the Collegium medicum, that is, the medical board, which contained life-saving instructions. Norell began blowing and massaging the child, which continued for more than an hour with others present, until the girl finally regained consciousness, and fully recovered from the accident. Two years later, in 1782, Anders de Bruce Norell proposed the Royal Patriotic Society's prize for saving a human life. The following year she was awarded a cash prize.

One of the many false rumours that surrounded Marie Antoinette at the end of the l'ancien régieme was that the Queen indulged in several lesbian affairs. The rumour often placed the Princesse de Lamballe or the Duchesse de Polignac as the Queen's mistress mainly because they were the Queen's best friends. That the satirists chose the Princesse de Lamballe as the woman Marie Antoinette should have had a romantic relationship merely shows how little they actually knew of the women. The Princesse was notoriously prudish and refused to take indulge in any affairs - with men as well as women. It was the widespread rumours of lesbianism that would contribute to the horrifying death of the Princesse. At the time homosexuality was known in France as the "German vice" which was used as a solid reason for why the Austrian-born Queen had to have at least a streak of homosexuality - she was born with it! Marie Antoinette had been completely starstruck by the Duchesse de Polignac when she met her and the Queen's admiration was interpreted as being yet more lesbian affection. The fact that Yolande was made a Duchesse shortly after meeting the Queen gave life to the rumours; after all the Sun King had been famous for bestowing lofty titles on his favourites! When the storm of the revolution had passed a certain noblewoman by the name of the Countess Lamont returned to France where she quickly claimed to have been the dethroned - and beheaded - Queen's mistress. Of course by then all the danger was over so the Countess risked nothing. This time the Queen is indulging in an affair with the Duchesse de Pequigny This is one of the pamphlets about the Queen and Yolande de Polignac. The text "Je ne respire plus que pour toi .. un baiser mon bel ange!" translated to "I only live (breathe) for you .. a kiss, my angel!"
