British sculptor Anna Gillespie uses the body as a template, creating human figures that appear to be subsumed in the material from which they are made. Ranging from small-scale to life-size, Gillespie's sculptures emerge from conventional materials like bronze and plaster and, sometimes, more resourceful items such as acorns and beech nuts. Her figures appear prone to the elements. Some appear to be blown away by the wind or covered creeping plant life as if they have become part of nature, returning to their origin. Take a look at some of her work after the jump, images courtesy of Anna Gillespie.

There are many mysteries, edges and shapeshifting truths in our world. The way most of our species has come to familiarise ourselves with the unfamiliar is through identification of pre-existing clusters of thought, namely, we use our minds. The mind is systematic and functions through organising, processing & clas

What primal night does Man touch with his senses? Ay, Love is a journey through waters and stars, through suffocating air, sharp tempests of grain: Love is a war of lightning, and two bodies ruined by a single sweetness. Kiss by kiss I cover your tiny infinity, your margins, your rivers, your diminutive villages, and a genital fire, transformed by delight, slips through the narrow channels of blood to precipitate a nocturnal carnation, to be, and be nothing but light in the dark.” ― Pablo Neruda Essence of moonlight, femininity and sensual fire. This is she who mesmerizes and dances her siren song for the moon to spill her secrets. In the crepuscular hours of twilight, her luminous movement falls upon the earth as a numinous veil in the form of moonlight. She is the feminine element in alchemy, where during incubation, she serves as one of the two principles within the materia prima. In this incarnations, she awaits, but has not yet been united in the fire of love. Let the love of the full moon complete the work of your vessel. *********

Safo. Cross stitch pattern. Counted cross stitch patter. Cross stitch supply. Hand embroidery pattern. PDF cross stitch. Cross stitch chart. Safo by Miquel Carbonell i Selva in PDF format. All my patterns are created using a combination of computer and hand correction and are designed in the ‘’ pointillist ‘’ style of art which is a technique of painting in which small distinct points of primary colors create the impression of an intermediate color. So, when you look at the embroidered piece from a few feet away all colors mixed together and it looks very realistic. The first photo is the original work of the artist and the second is the embroidered result, according to the pattern. The thread foto is from Mrs. Deb, which embroidered this pattern and she has the kindness enough to send me a foto. With your purchase you will receive with electronic delivery to your email box, 1. A PDF with picture that shows how it looks the finished piece. 2. A PDF with instructions and symbol key. 3. A PDF pattern with black and white symbols. 4. A PDF with thread lengths. Stitches: 275 x 400. Size, with 14 count Aida fabric: 19.64 x 28.57 inches, 49.89 x 72.57 cm. Jacob Maris was a Dutch painter, who with his brothers Willem and Matthijs belonged to what has come to be known as the Hague School of painters. He studied at the Antwerp Academy, and subsequently in Hubertus van Hove's studio during a stay in Paris from 1865 till 1871. Though he painted, especially in early life, domestic scenes and interiors invested with deeply sympathetic feeling, it is as a landscape painter that Maris excelled. He was the painter of bridges and windmills, of old quays, massive towers, and level banks; even more was he the painter of water, and misty skies, and chasing clouds. In all his works, whether in water or oil color, and in his etchings, the subject is always subordinate to the effect. His art is suggestive rather than decorative, and his force does not seem to depend on any preconceived method, such as a synthetical treatment of form or gradations of tone. And yet, though his means appear so simple, the artist's mind seems to communicate with the spectator's by directness of pictorial instinct, and we have only to observe the admirable balance of composition and truthful perspective to understand the sure knowledge of his business that underlies such purely impressionist handling. " No painter," says M. Philippe Zilcken, " has so well expressed the ethereal effects, bathed in air and light through floating silvery mist, in which painters delight, and the characteristic remote horizons blurred by haze; or again, the grey yet luminous weather of Holland, unlike the dead grey rain of England or the heavy sky of Paris."

This sculpture was made from reclaimed books that would have otherwise been thrown away. But look! They can have a second life...as something utterly captivating. What could be better than having your favorite stories immortalized forever and hanging on your wall? What if the words that helped define and shape your life could be forever felt with their essence locked into a sculpture? When you install this artwork in your home...people will gravitate towards it. Is it fabric? Is it water? Woodland mushrooms? What IS it? They'll want to touch it, to make sure it is real. No one has ever seen anything like it. What is that I see? Beethoven? Handel? Kayne? Is that a handwritten note on a page? Its the most amazing thing to look at from afar as well as up close. This piece was roughly 4 feet high x 4 feet wide. The interior is comprised of various different sizes of books, between 5.5" all the way down to 2" inches depth and was created for a specific place in the client's home in Chicago. You may send me the dimensions you would prefer. All sculptures are custom created. I incorporated books that represented her family: music! I can use your old books or look for specific titles as well. This buyer wanted a square-ish sculpture. Each page is folded, tipped, quilled, wrapped, rolled, pulled by my two hands, for a very intricate unique, artist-led design. Your artwork's patterns and layers will emerge organically and will be incomparable to any other sculpture I create or anything that can be bought elsewhere. A beautiful, custom wooden crate is crafted around the sculpture and it is suspended within for safe travel to your desired destination. The entire shipment will have a scheduled delivery (you get to schedule it) and it weighs 150-250 pounds, depending on size (the sculpture alone will weigh less but still be 100-150 pounds). These are both massively heavy and delicate. Never was there such a fun paradox! Unboxing and Hanging Suggestions will be sent after purchase and most customers hang themselves with 2-3 friends to assist with a simple drill and screws. People have hung them on anything from Florida plaster to drywall with wood studs to concave stairwells to drywall with metal studs, etc. Handmade in my studio, on a little southeast barrier island in the USA. Inspiration comes from my micro-homestead, the woods, the salt marshes I travel over and the salty sea we frequent weekly. Designers & Curators please contact me with any questions.
