Artist Allison May Kiphuth captures scenes inspired by her surroundings in Maine and along the New Hampshire seacoast by squeezing them into small wooden boxes scarcely a few inches wide. Her mixed media dioramas are constructed from layered ink and watercolor illustrations assembled with pins and string inside antique boxes. The content of each artwork varies from piece to piece from underwater scenes of sea life to magical tiny worlds populated by forest creatures. More

Making of himmelis (geometric ornaments) is an ancient tradition in Baltic Sea region. Himmelis were believed to bring luck, especially cereal and fertility luck, and therefore they were made for Christmas, Easter, weddings and other celebrations. This box consists about 600 reed straws from 4 different length - from 3 cm to 27 cm. Himmeli is easy to make - it consists of 43 octahedrons and can be made also by a group of people. Just make three different size octahedrons and tie them together. Family himmeli measures - height 70 cm, width 65 cm. Box measures 21,5 cm(l) x 21,5 cm(w) x 6,2 cm(h). Weight ca 300 g. The kit consists of: - a 600 reed straws - linen thread - copper wire hook - instruction manual (in English, Finnish and Estonian) The straws in this package are from common reed (Phragmites australis), which has grown on the western coast of Estonia and were collected for thatched roof builders. My goal this week is to get my travel journal created and ready to go for our trip to Maine (which is a good goal since we are leaving on Friday! eek!) I am hoping to share little bits of that process throughout the week. Starting it off I want to show a little bit of what has been inspiring me lately. I love Pinterest and the ability to quickly find great ideas from all over. Here are a few I really (click on the photos to go to original source): I LOVE this whole book Kara made with vintage postcards (and not just because she got them from my Etsy Shop!). I am thinking of using her idea of stapling the cards together to make a few pages in my book. From A Beautiful Mess Making little pockets and keeping bits of the beach - or other travels sewn in. From Martha Stewart. Use maps as pages - love the sewing too! From Just Perspective For more ideas check out my Travel Journals Pinterest Board or check out my past journals here on the blog! And if you are needing vintage supplies for your own journal be sure to check out my Etsy Shop. I will be closing the shop on Thursday for almost 2 weeks - so be sure to get your supplies now!!!
