This is a pattern I had made to teach my student how to make her first cabled hat, so I made sure it was not intimidating. Very quick to knit, so great for gifts. I have used a bulky alpaca yarn so it had a fair drape and a pom-pom was too heavy, but it may work better if you use wool. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/quick-cable-slouch-hat ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ *Note* I have originally posted and recommended size #10 needles for the body, but it seems like many people have been getting a less slouchy result. If you want to get a slouchy hat for sure, it might be better to use size #11 for the body. I don’t have a specific gauge, but the fabric for the main body should be somewhat loose and have a bit of a drape. If your swatch is closely knit and sturdy, your hat WILL become a beanie. Another note is on the *K3M1* increase; if you do chose to use KFB, watch out where you do that, since if you do *K3 KFB* the number WILL NOT match. PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION Materials Needed: US7 or 8 for Brim US10 or 11 for Body (NOTE : I had used #8 and #11, and the body was pretty big so I felted down a little. My student used #7 and #10, and it was a little less slouchier than the one I felted down. For snug brim I recommend 7, but if you want a big hat, try #11 for the body.#10 will give you a less-slouchy hat. Another way to add slouch is to do extra cable repeats before decrease.) For either, DPN, fixed 16

Determine Head Size - Hat Size For Women Determine Head Size - Hat Size For Men Most Common Hat Sizing Questions: What is the average hat size for men? 59cm / 23.2”, or Large. What is the average hat size for women? 57cm / 22.4”, or Medium. What size hat is one size fits most? In most cases, this refers to a women's hat and will fit around 57cm. If it were a men's hat or a unisex hat, this would mean the hat should fit up to 59 cm. Remember, hat manufacturers vary and you should always refer to the sizing chart for each company, when available. What size head does an XL hat fit? Up to 61cm, or 24” circumference. What hat size is 23” (58.4cm)? Large. I don’t have a measuring tape, can I guess my size? If you absolutely must order without knowing your size, the best way to sort of guess is to try on a normal hat and see how much more room you would need, fingers wise. Each finger is generally about 2 cm. The difference for most people between each size, or 2 cm, is one finger width. Useful tips to help you measure your hat size How To Measure For A Hat? First, Measure Your Head Circumference To measure your head circumference, take a sewing measuring tape or even a string, and wrap around above the ears and across your eyebrows. Please stick your finger under the tape so there is a little room and there you have head circumference! If you fall between measurements go for the next size up. Record your measurement in centimeters, if possible for the most accuracy. If you used a string, match it to a measuring tape. Find Your Hat Size with the corresponding size on the below hat chart It is known that different suppliers do in fact follow different sizing metrics. So, the chart, although universal, may vary from one hat maker to another. Many companies provide unique sizing charts for each of their hats. We try to have as many of these charts across all our sun hats. Despite that, we decided to take this a step further and offer the closest thing to a universal metrics system that caters to both men and women. That said, and without further ado, please find below the hat sizing charts along with instructions on how to measure your head circumference in order to determine which hat size to go with.

It is almost May. I’m slightly alarmed by this. Not just because the year is zipping by, and I’m wondering how I squandered away all that time with so little to show for it (Whither the sample chapter of the great American travel memoir, Everywhereist? Whither the clean laundry you were going to do?), but…

I love vintage hats, the cloche hats of the 1920s! Cloches were close-fitting hats that were worn quite low - almost down to the eyebrows. They were made in a variety of styles from brimless to turned-up brims. This hats is easy to make. I have been wanting to make one of these. I think you look great in this style too.
