About The River of Doubt NATIONAL BESTSELLER • At once an incredible adventure narrative and a penetrating biographical portrait—the bestselling author of River of the Gods brings us the true story of Theodore Roosevelt’s harrowing exploration of one of the most dangerous rivers on earth. “A rich, dramatic tale that ranges from the personal to the literally earth-shaking.” — The New York Times The River of Doubt—it is a black, uncharted tributary of the Amazon that snakes through one of the most treacherous jungles in the world. Indians armed with poison-tipped arrows haunt its shadows; piranhas glide through its waters; boulder-strewn rapids turn the river into a roiling cauldron. After his humiliating election defeat in 1912, Roosevelt set his sights on the most punishing physical challenge he could find, the first descent of an unmapped, rapids-choked tributary of the Amazon. Together with his son Kermit and Brazil’s most famous explorer, Cândido Mariano da Silva Rondon, Roosevelt accomplished a feat so great that many at the time refused to believe it. In the process, he changed the map of the western hemisphere forever. Along the way, Roosevelt and his men faced an unbelievable series of hardships, losing their canoes and supplies to punishing whitewater rapids, and enduring starvation, Indian attack, disease, drowning, and a murder within their own ranks. Three men died, and Roosevelt was brought to the brink of suicide. The River of Doubt brings alive these extraordinary events in a powerful nonfiction narrative thriller that happens to feature one of the most famous Americans who ever lived. From the soaring beauty of the Amazon rain forest to the darkest night of Theodore Roosevelt’s life, here is Candice Millard’s dazzling debut. Hermione, as described in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter Series, is a rather smart and practical heroine. While she can dress up with the best of them, these socks remind me of something she might wear while practicing charms or transfiguration or reading up on Arithromancy in the Gryffindor Common Room. This sock is knit from the cuff down and features a garter stitch edged slip stitch heel. The pattern itself is written for one size, but with a 4 stitch pattern repeat, it is easily customizable to fit whatever size one desires. NOTE: When knitting the heel flap, you begin on a WS row. 06/27/11: PATTERN NOW AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD IN GERMAN :D - Patricia was kind enough to provide a translation! 7/30/12: Pattern now available for download in French :D Jennifer, Nylwenn, was kind enough to provide a translation! 6/24/15: Pattern now available for download in Swedish!!! on Duncan Creek. Took a quick trip back up there this morning, this time with a tripod. The flow was about twice as high as the last time I went up there. There was no way I could get across the creek to get to the cascades I wanted to. So I settled for this spot near the lower trailhead.
These shockingly beautiful sunsets in Vermont have to be seen to be believed.
Hilton Falls is a beautiful example of the natural beauty to be found in Ontario, Canada. This beautiful waterfall is found where a tributary of Sixteen Mile Creek flows over a 30 metre drop on the Niagara Escarpment. The approach to the Falls is through beautiful woodland - part of the famous Bruce Trail, but it can be difficult to photograph this peaceful spot without other walkers in the frame! I'll print this on pearl / lustre paper - but can print gloss if you prefer. This portrait (upright) format print is available in various sizes, a couple of which come matted sizes ready to drop into a frame. UK buyers can message me for A3 in 20x16 as well, at £40, but this option is difficult & expensive to ship safely internationally. I have a landscape format version of this image, showing more of the cliff face. I hope to list this shortly - but please do message me if you can't find it. I print up to 19x13 inches myself to retain control of process, larger sizes are sourced from a high quality print lab. Dispatch times - if printing myself, 1-3 business days. For larger prints, 3-5 business days. Shipping time, will of course, depend on whether I am posting locally or internationally. The watermark / copyright notice will not be in the image I supply to you. Z611969
This waterfall is Kaieteur Falls, found in the nation of Guyana within Kaieteur Falls National Park. This waterfall sits on the Potaro River, a tributary of the Essequibo River that drains a large portion of South America north of the Amazon Basin. The falls cascade over cliffs made of conglomerate and sandstone, dropping over 225 meters in the initial fall. These falls aren’t either the biggest or tallest in the world, but the drop is 4 times the height of the well-known Niagara Falls and twice the height of Victoria falls. These falls are therefore one of a few found globally that have both a very large drop, a high flow rate, and a narrow focus in its canyon, giving the waters pouring over the cliff immense power by the time they reach the base. The chateau, sanctuary and village of Rocamadour. Situated on a cliff over the Alzou River (an indirect tributary of the Dordogne, via the Ouysse), Rocamadour is the second most visited site in France. The site contains, among other things, the church of Saint Michel, built during the 12th century, and the pilgrimage church of Notre Dame, rebuilt in its present configuration from 1479.
