When it comes to food from Trinidad and Tobago, adding a ton of flavor goes a long way to making unctuous and irresistible stew chicken. The basis of Stew Chicken is Green Seasoning. We made green seasoning back when we cooked Guyana. There are hundreds (thousands!) of recipes for green seasoning, so I thought it’d be fun to make up a second batch with this recipe. I used a different mix of herbs and aromatics, like ginger, garlic, tomato, green onion, and thyme. These flavors speak to Trinidad and Tobago’s preferences… and go wonderfully with this chicken.

1261) New Polymer Banknotes, Trinidad and Tobago: The entire series will consist of $100, $50, $20, $10, $5 and $1 denominations: $100 has already been issued on 09.12.2019: After putting into circulation the $100 Banknote, the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago has on 21.02.2020, unveiled the concept designs of its new Series of updated Banknotes ($50, $20, $10, $5 and $1 denominations), which are going to be produced in polymer. On 09.12.2019, the $100 Polymer Banknote was put into circulation by the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, which had indicated that the other denominations would also undergo a change to polymer shortly. All the Banknotes remain the same defining colour, but the Bank's award-winning $50 Banknote has got a make-over. It is now entirely orange and does not have hints of green or yellow. The presently circulating Banknotes Series, which was introduced in 2002 ($1 and $20 denominations) in 2003 ($5, $10 and $100) and in 2012 ($50 Banknotes were re-introduced into circulation on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of Trinidad and Tobago and were the country's first Banknotes printed on polymer) will remain legal tender until the end of 2021. The new designs will feature on the Front of all the Banknotes, bold, bright numerals representing the Banknote's value/denomination and a variety of native birds found on the islands, with the country's crest being depicted in the centre. The Back of all the Banknote denominations will include an image of the building of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago. More details regarding these Banknotes will be confirmed by the Central Bank in due course, as and when the Banknotes are scheduled for release. The Banknotes will also incorporate upgraded security features - tactile imprint, micro-perforations, micro-lettering, shimmering metal print and updated security thread applications. The Central Bank has further added, that, some denominations would be released into circulation from 09/2020, though no actual schedule or which denomination would next be released has been made known so far. The Polymer Banknote Series denominations and designs: On the Front of the $1 Polymer Banknote will feature the Scarlet Ibis (Eudocimus ruber), which is the National Bird of Trinidad. Brilliant scarlet in colour, these birds are, at times, mistaken for flamingos. On the Front of the $5 Polymer Banknote will feature the Blue-crowned Motmot (Momotus momota), which is native to Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Central and South American region. On the Front of the $10 Polymer Banknote will feature the Cocorico (Ortalis ruficauda), known locally as "chachalaca". The Cocorico resides in the hill-forest areas of the island. On the Front of the $20 Polymer Banknote will feature the Hummingbird (Amazilia tobaci). Trinidad and Tobago is known as The Land of the Hummingbird", as more than 16 species of this bird have been found here. On the Front of the $50 Polymer Banknote will feature the Red-capped Cardinal (Paroaria gularis), which is a genus of red-headed cardinal tanagers and is a rare and beautiful bird, which sports the National Colours of Trinidad and Tobago - Red, White and Black. On the Front of the $100 Polymer Banknote already put into circulation has featured the Bird of Paradise (Paradisaea apodo). The Bird of Paradise is one of the most beautiful wild birds in existence. A native to the isle of Papua New Guinea, this bird came to Trinidad and Tobago through English cocoa estate owners, who attempted breeding them in Little Tobago in the early 20th Century. It's truly the greatest show on Earth.
The story of Pan is a narrative of pain and of triumph. It is a story of the fierce contestation taking place in the cultural gayelle between the Canboulay (Cannes Brûlées) and the Mardi Gras – a reflection of the class struggle that has raged from the post-Cédula genesis of modern Trinidad and that is still raging today. It is a discourse on the playing out of the contradiction between oppression and resistance, which is at the heart of West Indian history. A lot of grand claims for a humble instrument/movement created by a class of downpressed yet resilient survivors!
Trinidad and Tobago is a fascinating pair of islands, with a mix of Indian, Asian, English, and African cultures. It also has unique flora and fauna, as well as a vibrant nightlife that has produced calypso, soca, and steel drum music. Home to the largest carnival party in the Caribbean, the country has the strongest economy of all in the Caribbean, and the capital is a bustling city with half a million people. Trinidad has incredible wildlife, while Tobago remains a little gem on the fringes...

5th August 2012 at Exhibition Road, London SW7. A Steel Pan is a pitched percussion instrument from Trinidad and Tobago derived from an oil drum. It is struck with a pair of rubber tipped sticks. Steel Bands bring together different sized and pitched instruments. A Tenor Pan is soprano pitched and plays the lead melody. Steel Pans are assigned the number 111.241.1 in the Hornbostel-Sachs classification of musical instruments ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hornbostel-Sachs ), indicating: 1 = Idiophones. Sound is primarily produced by the actual body of the instrument vibrating, rather than a string, membrane, or column of air. 11 = Struck Idiophones. These idiophones are set in vibration by being struck. 111 = Directly Struck Idiophones. The player himself executes the movement of striking; whether by mechanical intermediate devices, beaters, keyboards, or by pulling ropes, etc. 111.2 = Percussive idiophones. The instrument is struck either with a non-sonorous object (hand, stick, striker) or against a non-sonorous object (human body, the ground). 111.24 = Percussion vessels. 111.241 = Gongs. The vibration is strongest near the vertex. 111.241.1 = Individual gongs.
