Гулитова всегда интересовали характер и природа нашей всегдашней шиворот-навыворотности, которая начинается с наоборотности букв алфавита. Еще студентом он поразился, что Владимир Фаворский рисовал у своих «Я» длинные, нарочито отставленные назад тяжеловесные ножки, которые не то что тормозили, а просто останавливали визуальное скольжение по строке, создавая немыслимые для европейского глаза «дырки», разрывы в шрифтовом ритме. Фаворский не скрывал, а как бы подчеркивал недостатки кириллических графем.
