Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson's daughter True Thompson celebrated with family and friends at an early birthday party: The theme: One of her favorite TV shows.
I seem to have moved lately into the party photo props and am attempting to hire them out although self promoting seems to be an issue for me but I thought I would share them on this page. We probably won't have any big parties this year as we have a big party year next year with my eldest turning 18, and as much as we try to make them cheap they are still an expense. But I have lately done some boards for other people and for Miss Five's pool party in January, a circus board which is double sided, a lion and the ringmaster, and a bear.

We are VERY much into our imaginations in the Torbett house. I haven't ever really grown out of my imagination (thank goodness!) and my girls can love to pretend. A year or so ago we introduced them to the world of Narnia. I admittedly, thought they were too young for the movies but Brett let them watch a few minutes of the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and they were hooked. Between watching the movies and listening to the audio books, we have been thoroughly immersed in all things Narnia for quite some time. When June rolled around Anna Ruth said she wanted a Narnia birthday party. For one reason and another a party never happened this summer, so instead we had one last week! You know how we live by "better late than never" around here! I tried to keep the decorations simple and inexpensive, like sewing these white banners myself. These are the cotton facial pads sold on the makeup aisle. I also made loads of paper chains with an old box of computer paper. I wanted to have a few easy crafts for the kids to do, including these snow globes, Each child picked out a jar and a mini tree. Next I glued the tree onto the inside of the lid while they filled up their jar with fake snow. The trees were around $7 and came in a big pack of close to 15 on the Christmas aisle at Wal-Mart. They were really the biggest expense. I hung snowflakes found at Dollar Tree from the dining room light. A plastic lion from our toy bin stood in for Aslan. I was going to put the cake on the cake stand but it crumbled so I just decorated the stand instead. Cotton balls made easy "snow" for decorating the table. The jars held gold, spray-painted branches. The girls and I are obsessed with the gold spray-paint! It is awesome! We have plans to use it on some more things found in nature. The other crafts I had for the kiddos were swords and shields to decorate. I cut the shields out from poster board and attached a small, fabric handle on the back so they could really hold them up. I recommend getting your poster board at Dollar Tree. It was half the price of Wal-Mart! I made the swords from long paint sticks, which I purchased for $.37 each. I used cardboard for the horizontal sword piece because I couldn't get any stores to sell me (or give me) any small paint sticks. For snacks we had applesauce cups, black olives, Veggie chips, and a healthy, homemade chocolate cake! The kids ate, crafted, played with the balloons, and watched Narnia! This party was so much fun! Next, it's on to planning a baby shower for a friend, a fall party, and Betsy's birthday party! This is my kind of fun. :) Do you enjoy throwing parties? Do you have any events coming up you're excited about?

The last theme covered in PB's "In Search Of..." birthday party was the Loch Ness Monster. For decor of this area I made a pool noodle nessie with blue mylar water rings around the humps. For the activity the kids built their own little nessie and raced it! To make the little Nessies there were small pieces of pool noodle foam to use as the body base and green pipe cleaners with (goggly eyes already attached) for the humps. Below are the mini Loch Ness racing lakes: The lakes are long planter boxes covered in black yard debris bags with rocks on the bottom and filled with water. To get their Nessies to glide across the water air propulsion by means of a straw was used. "...and down the Loch they come! In the final stretch it's Nessie by a neck!" Next up... Usually during the Summer we have to beg our kids to read. Refreshingly, the griping has been almost non-existent this year. We started reading the Percy Jackson series together, and the kids have loved it. The books are really well written, and are extremely fast paced so it keeps our young readers attention. Some of our little ones aren't advanced enough to read the books yet so we downloaded the Audible versions for them to listen to while everyone else read it. Honestly, it might be one of the best Audible books I've ever heard. I'm so impressed with the narrator's ability to speak in so many voices. I've enjoyed listening to it just as much as the kids! If you are interested in reading or listening to the books we noticed that The Lightning Thief (the first book in the series), the Audible versions of the books, and the boxed set are all on sale on Amazon right now! HOST A PERCY JACKSON PARTY We are about halfway through the series, and decided to have a little fun with it. Never ones to shy away from a chance to throw a good themed party, we came up with the idea to have Percy Jackson pool party. We used the books as inspiration, and invited anyone who has been reading the books along with us. There were Pegasus floats, themed food, and - because the boys are involved - tridents on the ready for battle. Make the hop over to Savvy Sassy Moms to see more details and photos from the Percy Jackson Party and check out all the ideas on how you can host your own. We also share a free printable for discussion cards to keep the conversation going. What books are your kids reading for Summer? We are always looking for more good ones to keep our readers motivated? We'd love to hear! Come spend the day with us on: | Instagram | Pinterest | Facebook | Twitter |
Having two boys means I never get to indulge in sparkling tiaras and pink tulle, so I had a wonderful time planning this dual birthday party for my oldest son and his best friend. These little cuties were born two weeks apart and have rarely spent a day apart since, so it only made sense for them to celebrate their birthdays together this year. We weren't quite sure about the theme, since three year olds have a tendency to change their minds at a moments notice (needless to say I kept receipts for EVERYTHING just in case). However, the kids stuck to their original plan and had a blast jumping in the castle bounce house, making pirate treasure maps, and attempting to break open the sturdiest pinata I've ever seen. Guests enjoyed cannon popcorn balls, fairy Godmother fruit wands, and "fish & chips". Due to allergies the menu was peanut and egg free. Even the yummy, moist, vanilla and chocolate cupcakes were egg free thanks to my awesome co-host and partner in crime. She not only opened up her house to tons of children high on sugar, but gracefully put up with my crazy planning and wild ideas. I'm so thankful for our close friends that were able to make the day so special. It was the perfect celebration for these two crazy kiddos. Now to see what the year of the terrifying 3's have in store for us! Pirate Menu: peanut and egg free Cannon Balls (popcorn balls) Pirate Cupcakes Sailor's Rope (Twizzlers) Fish and Chips (baked goldfish and potato chips) Desert Island Veggies Dark Chocolate Covered Strawberries Treasure Map Pops (chocolate covered Oreo pops) Princess Menu: peanut and egg free Crystal Balls (popcorn balls) Princess Cupcakes Magic Beans (pink jelly beans) Rapunzel's Tower of Oreos (mini Oreos) Fairy Godmother Fruit Wands White Chocolate Covered Strawberries Princess Pops (vanilla cake pops) Drinks: - Grog (punch made from green berry fruit punch, white cranberry juice, and sprite) - Princess Punch (pink lemonade) - Poisonous Punch for the adults (a concoction of beer, vodka, and lemonade) Get the Look: Pirate: - Black tablecloth (twin sheet from Wal-mart) - Fish net (Oriental Trading) - Pirate ship sail (made by attaching a black poster board to a wooden dowel to mimic a pirate ship sail.
