NASA scientists were startled when a recent exploratory mission revealed a huge and rapidly-growing cavity on the underside of one of Antaractica's glaciers—signaling that the ice mass has been melting much faster than experts realized. The cavity is two-thirds the size of Manhattan—large enough to have contained about 14 billion tons of ice...
Once upon a time I was a youth leader - I was barely more than a youth myself so it was kind of fun. Teenagers have a reputation for being rude and spotty and sometimes smelly. They, supposedly, speak disrespectfully, do stupidly selfish things, sulk, swear, lie, have attention spans shorter than a goldfish and…
Sir Haytham (centre-left) and former Gatekeeper of Thunderhall Borus (centre-right) Sir Haytham "the Untrue" of House Blythe (Born 692AV) is the second son of Lord Harrison the Vast of Thunderhall and brother of the King's father Harrison. He studied at the Royal Academy and was an naturally gifted warrior and leader. He excelled in his military history and battle tactics studies and seemed to be able to convince his classmates to do whatever he asked, either through intimidation or manipulation. During his studies, he was placed at several castles across Thronfeld to learn from experienced Steel Hands. As he travelled, he gathered from many of the Steel Hands that there was a shared sentiment of disdain toward the lords of Thronfeld. Many of the Steel Hands are second sons of great Lords and were upset with their living conditions compared to that of their brothers. In 711AV, he returned to the Royal Academy to finish his studies, after which he was placed in charge of military training for House Maine, a minor house in the north loyal to House Blythe. In the following seven years, Haytham corresponded with Steel Hands across Thronfeld that he believed shared his ideals. He believed that Thronfeld would be better protected if the Second Sons asserted their claims on their house’s land. He formed an alliance of nearly 100 Knights compiled of second sons and other Steel Hands sympathetic to their cause. Haytham’s ally Filip Hammond, who was stationed at Thunderhall rallied men who had lost faith in House Blythe as it currently stood, and many pledged loyalty to Haytham. Many other Steel Hands did the same for each other and soon, large portions of the standing armies of Thronfeld’s strongest houses were preparing to install Second Sons as their new Lords across the kingdom. In the late winter of 717AV, when all the pieces of the coup were in position, Haytham visited the Storm Hold to see his old friend, the prince, Eodor. He made a case for Eodor to join him, alluding to the possibility of Eodor overthrowing his father and sister and becoming King, though Haytham did not say outright what his plans were. Eodor was tempted but asked for time to consider it. Haytham took this to mean he was on board, so he set his plans in motion. He secretly stole the ancient jewelled sword of the First Man from the King’s vault and travelled north. On the first day of spring in 718AV, all across Thronfeld, Second Sons were returning home and ordering the executions of their fathers and older brothers. Many of Thronfeld’s territories had been subdued by the insurgents before the King was aware that it was happening. Among the young lords slain was Lord Josrick of Hammond Hall, the son of Jamiston Hammond, the King's Master at Arms. The King rallied what armies were still loyal to him, mostly from the South and West where the coup had mostly failed, and rode North. Thus began the Steel Hands Revolt (AKA the Second Sons Rebellion). Unfortunately for Haytham, the rebellion failed and soon, the Second Sons were on the run. The war culminated at the battle of the Frost Gate in which most of the rebels surrendered or were slaughtered. Some of them reached the Shining Stream and rowed South. Those that remained sold their services to the Attonight Empire. In present day, Haytham serves as the overlord of the knights loyal to the Emperor.
