Valentines Day houses because I heart houses. If you were a house I would deed you. Red and pink houses decorated for Valentine's Day. Unusual heart homes.
White is a popular, mainstay color of any vintage cottage. This one features a bit of red paired with romantic, farmhouse home decor.
This 10" x 8" print from my original painting "Valentine Cottage" is printed on 80lb acid free, archival paper. It is printed with ink that is moisture, scratch and fade resistant for 98+ years. The print is centered on an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet. It is ready for professional framing or you can frame it yourself in a 14" x 11" standard frame with a ready made or custom matte. I have signed, titled and dated the print. Your print will be packaged in a clear acid free protective sleeve. It will be shipped flat with careful attention to packaging so you receive it safe and secure. Thanks for visiting my store!
"Valentine Cottage" is a charming little pink cottage, reminiscent of vintage art prints. It's the kind of cottage those of us "cottage lovers" would like to live in. You can imagine walking through the gate with the heart on it, up the walk, and into a beautifully furnished little home. The garden is abundant year 'round, it's the kind of place that just makes you happy! The image is 10"x8", and is adhered to illustration board. It hangs from satin ribbons. Tie the ribbons in a pretty bow and hang the piece anywhere you like. It also looks lovely displayed in a hutch or book shelf, or on a small easel. It comes in a sealed cellophane bag. Here's to Love! xo
Cottage Hearts...pillow kit I have had this project (or something like it) rolling around for awhile now. I knew i wanted hearts on fabric in a pillow...but i wasn't sure if i wanted to cut a stencil and stamp them, do some sort of patchwork heart, or applique. Well, with Valentine's Day a month away i decided that it was now or never. As a rule, i am not a fan of hearts...but after seeing projects with hearts on instagram...i knew it was high time i whipped up this project. So several days ago i dug through our off-cuts, leftovers, and scrap packs for pinks, reds, and backgrounds. I cut my pieces (scaling it back the 5 x 5 layout to 4 x 4). Over a cold January weekend...i whipped up this lovely. Cottage Hearts measures approximately 18 x 18 inches. Features 1 vintage wool heart, 1 flannel wool heart, and 14 fabric hearts appliqued to 16 different background prints. *** This listing is for a Cottage Hearts kit. Cottage Hearts kit includes: 16--squares of backgrounds (may vary from picture but will have the same overall affect...i promise) 14--squares of reds and pinks (may vary from picture but sure to be delightful) 1 flannel square (current flannel is a pink buffalo plaid) 1 PRECUT heart (i used wool for the 16th heart, but we have options) WOOL COLORS dark maroon fiery red chocolate dark rose pink Pink Chenille (this is a heart made from a vintage pink chenille bedspread) pillow backing (as with the pinks, reds, and backgrounds on the front...backing prints vary) 1 skein of pink floss 14--heart papers (7 larger and 7 small) Cottage Hearts pattern Option to include: 2 heart acrylic templates *1 small *1 large *windowed *3/8 inch seam allowance *** Not included: 1 spool of Gutermann Hand Quilting thread in white, 1 spool Gutermann cotton thread in white, muslin backing, batting

Better late than never right? I promised this to you by the end of last week and then just couldn't get it done. Ah well, onward and upward. This is such an easy little banner you will no doubt be saying "I could have figured that out on my own" nevertheless, here is a step by step. 1. You will need three pieces of fabric for each heart. I used one 4" square scraps of quilting fabric, a leftover scrap of eyelet and one 4" square of light cotton batting for the middle. The batting gives the shape some body. You will also need 1/2" wide bias tape. You can make the back the same fabric as the front, use a plain white if it won't show or do a different print. Use what you have! This is a great way to use your scraps. 2. Cut out a heart shape, or any shape you want to make for your banner. This technique will work for almost anything. Flowers, (like the ones I did for my office below!), hearts, maybe pumpkins for fall or apples for the beginning of school? 3. I made a heart shape pattern on card stock so I could just trace around the pattern and all my hearts would be the same size. It is about 3 1/2" tall. Trace around the shape with a fine point disappearing marker. You can also just use a pencil to mark the back piece of fabric where it won't show. I am not left handed, this is my simulation of tracing the heart while I juggle a camera. I looks a little wonky, but you get the idea :) 4. Stack your fabrics with the two quilting fabrics right side out with the batting sandwiched between them. I don't even bother to pin them all together. The batting does a pretty good job of keeping the fabrics from slipping, but if you have a problem go ahead and pin. Then line up the outline of the heart with your needle and start sewing the three layers together. I like to use the decorative stitches on my machine for this. I think it just adds another layer of detail and it's fun to use them since I seldom get a chance in my regular sewing. If you would rather, or you find it easier, go ahead and use a straight stitch, it's totally up to you. This is how it looks sewn together. Now trim off the hanging threads..... And 5. trim around the heart. I like to use my pinking shears because it gives a pretty edge and keeps the edges from fraying. I like to use 1/2 inch wide bias tape for my banner. It usually comes in a 3 yard length, You can cut it to any length you want. I cut mine in half so my banner is 54" long. 6. Find the center of your tape and center a heart on it. I usually make an odd number of hearts so I can straddle that center with the rounded parts of the heart. I also just like how odd numbered items look. Pin the hear to the tape and then pin the rest of your hearts evenly on each side. I always just eyeball it, but if you want to measure, you can. 7. Now just sew a straight line across the part of the heart that is on the tape. I usually use white thread because I find it is hardly noticeable with the bright colors I use. And you're done! I'm keeping this patriotic banner because July 4th is right around the corner, But I have a few multicolor banners in the shop if anyone wants one. This is a fun little project and so easy to personalize. I'll be back soon, (I promise!) with some more frugal wedding decorating tips:>) Have a great week!

The Pursuit of Craft and Happiness
Valentine's Day has never been one of my more favored holidays but I think that with all the time at home this year, I added way more than usual. I have one bin with Valentine's stuff in my attic that I've collected over many years and I used most of it in my kitchen. I think that, more than anything I was craving a pop of color and some cheer to add to this space. I like how so many colors play well with the blue/green of the island. The pandemic won't disrupt our usual Valentine's Day plans. I usually cook a nice dinner at home and we give the kids (and each other!) some chocolate from a small shop in the neighborhood I grew up in. We had a big snowstorm and are expecting more so there will likely still be snow out that window come February 14. It seems like we are getting a few winter's worth of snow in a short period of time here in NJ. We're used to lot of snow up in the mountains at the cabin, but here in NJ it turns into a big mess very quickly. The banner over the sink is new this year, from Target and was a part of the Opalhouse Valentine's Day decor. And the dish towel on the sink as well as the dish towels hanging as curtains are all from TJMaxx. Everything else is old. I switched over to a red cardinal bird sponge at the sink. Those little sponges are so fun! In the living room, I added in some more color. I usually wait until Spring to do that but I was needing it this year so I brought it our earlier. Up in in our bedroom, I simply added a banner over our bed from the Target Dollar section. Happy Valentine's Day from our house to yours!

Hi Friends, I challenged my decorating "self" this month to do some Valentine's Day vignettes with pinks and soft pastels instead of a lot of red. No sooner do I put away the reds from Christmas than they're back again for February and Valentine's Day. I wanted to keep the Baker's Rack romantic and feminine, so I used my antique china teapots and some of my English Cottages to keep things sweet and homey. The two smaller cottages are a salt and pepper set. and the two larger Cottages are Cookie Jars I shared a few of my vintage "Valentine's Day" accessories HERE and HERE last week. I'm really enjoying my faux rose arrangement in the painted rose pitcher. It's so much easier than trying to outsmart the kitties in their quest for greens and tasty blooms. I do have a little red out and about, but I'm trying to keep it toned down. I finally got around to sharing a tutorial on my Moss-Covered Heart this week. I put it together several years ago, but wasn't prepared for the mess I made. Picture taking at that time was out of the question with Tacky glue from head to toe. I'm mixing a few vintage tea towels with newer ones. Tea towels are an easy way to bring in some color and add to the Holiday or Seasonal decor. ... and I brought back my little painted watering can some faux Hydrangeas. Two vintage pillows add a little extra Valentine's love. Do you have special plans with your big Sweetie and little Sweeties? Since it's a weeknight I went crazy and made brownies for a special treat. That's really stepping out there for me these days, since we've been cutting way back on sugar around here. They tasted pretty good even if they were gluten free. Guess what time it is.....? Yep, you guessed it. Time for a Valentine Porch Post! Honestly, if it hadn't been for Jill, Miss Gypsy Brocante I'd still be looking at red and green plaid and a few leftover Christmas goodies. She enticed me to romance my sunroom for Valentine's Day, when she asked me to be her first featured porch on her new So I turned on the little heater grabbed some pink, red, and romantic and set to work. If you haven't visited Jill's new get together on Mondays be sure and drop by. We'll all be sitting out there having our morning coffee. (Gosh, don't you wish we really could?) Can we collectively have a sigh for Spring to arrive? Thanks Jill, for the motivation, I feel a little like the proverbial groundhog out here; climbing out of my warm nest to check and see if there is a shadow! Thanks for dropping by the porch, next month I'm hoping for a hint of Spring. ``````````````````````````````````````` I love this next part of VIF, sharing a few inspiring posts from last week. I still love to make valentines, and this year I got the idea to make a quick and easy "shabby" style bunting that reminds me of old love letters. I cast around thrift stores for old papers. Not only are they super cheap, but they already have the aged look that craft stores can only replicate. I used cards from an old recipe file that already had the holes punched in them, and got out my stash of ink stamping stuff. I kept to a pale design and only used faded black ink for the look I wanted. It's very overcast, and this is all set up under a sky light in my back hall. It's all fuzzy, but I wanted the bunting to show against a blank wall. The doilies are from a vintage box that probably came from an old restaurant supply. Each is simply folded in half, laid across ordinary string, and secured with a glue stick along the fold. I kept it simple with only a single stamp design at the center of each doily. The old valentine candy box (vintage Nabisco) is also a thrift store find. This is a single large stamp design already composed on a large block. I can stamp the whole thing, as I did here. or only a portion of it somewhere else. The cards are held in place by knotting ribbon along the string to keep the cards from slipping. I like the curl the ribbon makes coming right off the spool. I used what I had on hand, but was glad to find the super thin pink satin and a sheeny white stripe ribbon in my stash. I knotted one of each strand together at each place with a single tie, being sure to leave random ragged lengths. Welcome to February! I hope it's a fun and beautiful month for you! Hello everyone, The last couple of years I have been enjoying adding touches of red to our kitchen/dining room. The red and white vintage quilt is the perfect touch of red and white for anytime of the year but especially Christmas. The harvest table is the same one we had when our seven children all sat around the table for meals.....wish those days hadn't gone by so quickly! The chairs were brown thrift shop finds that got a makeover a few years ago. The transferware pitcher and basin came from Coulson's in Summerside. The lovely vintage plaid picnic box came from Emment & Ellie's on University Ave in Charlottetown. It will be perfect for a winter display of greenery and berries on my porch. Love the lantern too ~ thanks Sharon! Most of you have seen my vintage coffee pot. Getting ready for Christmas. I am enjoying the sparkle of Christmas lights in our home once again ~ it makes these long dark evenings so cheery. I will have to get some photos to share with you soon. Tomorrow, I am invited to a friends beautiful home for a Christmas lunch - so let the fun begin! I am joining Be Inspired at Common Ground today as well as My Romantic Home for Show & Tell Friday. Blessings to all my American friends ~ I hope you are enjoying a lovely Thanksgiving day. Thank you for visiting, Carolyn
