The Society of Publication Designers, SPD, announced the finalists for its yearly magazine design awards. This year's entrants are terrific eye candy. The awards are considered one of the industry's premier laurels. There are too many to list in a single blog post, so we've culled some highlights for you:

I came across Dutch fashion designer Femke Agema flicking through an in-flight magazine on the way back from a recent trip to Amsterdam; one of the most enjoyable pre-take-off distractions I can remember. Femke's work marries technical skill with some fantastical ideas as proved by her two most recent collections. For _Elders_, her 2013 spring/summer range, she took inspiration from our primordial emotional response to the onset of spring, "the simple joy we feel in being let loose into the wild to play in an environment overflowing with possibilities."
Finish photographer Christoffer Relander (previously covered here) explores our relationship to nature in his ongoing series of multiple-exposed photographs. Primarily portraits, his dreamy pieces portray subjects physically merging with their natural surroundings. Relander has been working on a new series, "We Are Nature" since 2010, which was revealed on Friday night at Galerie GEO.
