What two things have this in common: kinda grumpy, but always make sure you're ok; Are constantly tired, but run around like crazy; Cute, but will hurt you if you make them mad? Babushkas and cats.

Fashions and technologies may change over time, but cats never go out of style.
A century ago illustrator Louis Wain was a household name. Who was the man behind the cat drawings?
I'm an admitted "crazy cat lady" so I take some comfort in the fact that it's not just me who likes to take ridiculous pictures of her cat. For instance, English photographer Harry Pointer, who in the 1800s took around 200 pictures of his "Brighton Cats" in somewhat ridiculous poses. Then there's Harry Whittier Frees who started his work in 1906 by putting a party hat on his cat. Hit the jump to learn more and gander at some old-timey cats.

There is already one group on flickr about paper moons but it appears to be inactive. I have always loved the genre of vintage photographs of people posing on or against a giant paper moon in a studio. I thought it would be nice to set up a group just for vintage paper moon studio photographs. I have none of my own so I will send out invitations to any one who may have a suitable image I come across. I have been contacted by Confetta who asked to have a link put in to this site, also with an interest in Paper Moons: www.squidoo.com/papermoon
