Lesbianism has largely been ignored historically, but these photographs show the real relationships between women.
We know that lesbians have been around since the dawn of time, but it is sometimes hard to picture them...
I love Valentine's Day. This is one of those holidays that does not overwhelm my house, but still lots of sweetness. My front window displays a collection of vintage Valentine candy boxes. I did my love bird garland again this...
I just can't talk about the history of 1950s skirts without also discussing the petticoats and crinolines worn under them. The Paper Doll look of the fifties could not be achieved with simple cotton and lace slips. The five yard skirt needed five net petticoats to achieve the Victorian volume that the doll look required.
The Museum of London's one night only exhibition captures saucy, sordid and romantic moments in the capital's history.

The Daisy Café Paris Circa 1950 This ad might have enticed me to go. Try out my five years studying the French language on real French people. source Once I got there, I might ride around like this...going from café to café source However, not bloody likely... since I would probably be wearing this. source Maybe I would get a little friendly with the natives. source Might even take up dancing along the Seine after a couple glasses of wine! source I would definitely sit along the river, gazing at the pont neuf while nibbling some pain au chocolat and sipping my café au lait. source But I seriously doubt that I would see this adorable clock at any of these locations during any of my adventures. But that's okay. Because now I can see it any time I want. Tee hee. Any TIME. It's a clock. Oh, forget it. This arrived at my house this week in an ordinary brown cardboard box. I have been anxiously awaiting its arrival since the day I ordered it from Antique Farm House. I tell you what...this baby did not disappoint. I'm not a big fan of blue, but it's a little turquoise-y and I love it. It's about a foot tall and 9 inches across. The bells don't really function, they're just for looks. That's probably just as well. I'd probably pee myself if that thing went off! It's perfect for the guest bedroom that's slowly becoming shabby. It might just get finished someday. Because, as you can see...the chest of drawers this is sitting on looks like this and has for about 2 years. I'm sorry. I'm hoping to finish it this winter. I still have to change those drawer pulls on the top and put the knobs on. Of course then sand and paint. Chalk paint? I think yes! So, let's leave that sad story behind and just focus on our little trip to Paris. and this cutie: Now, excuse me...I must go and be fabulous. source Au Revoir! P.S. this is NOT a sponsored post...I just really like my clock! :) Sharing Here: DebbieDoo's Newbie Party The Dedicated House ~ Blue Friday
Children’s clothing evolved as time went by during the Victorian era. Many of these styles mirrored the adult styles of the day to some extent. Small girls wore crinoline petticoats like their mothers. There was a significant difference between the clothes worn by girls and their mothers. The length of the skirts worn by little girls was short than their mothers. Around the age of 16 a girls skirt would be full length down to the ankles just like their mothers. In fact, by this time the well to do young ladies would be dressing in the same fashion as adults. Until the late 1800’s girls were still wearing corsets. Below is a collection of 37 vintage portraits of beautiful teenage girls from the Victorian era.

At the beginning of 20th century, there was no Photoshop or plastic surgery, and the beauty icons of those times looked completely different from modern actresses, singers and models. Take a look at these 100-year-old pictures capturing the pure beauty of women who lived a century ago.
Never before have we seen such a weird combo of rad, vintage imagery with totally WTF cover lines. Be thankful you had Teen Vogue.
There are many products in the market today that are impeccably made and of high-quality, but still don’t make the news. On the other hand, there are some products that are mediocre at best, but are selling like pancakes because…

Alfred Cheney Johnston (1885 – 1971) was a New York City-based photographer known for his portraits of Ziegfeld Follies showgirls as well as of actors and actresses from the worlds of stage and film. Johnston was born into an affluent New York banking family, which subsequently moved to Mount Vernon, New York. Initially he studied painting and illustration at the National Academy of Design in New York, but after graduating in 1908, his subsequent efforts to earn a living as a portrait painter did not meet with success. Instead, reportedly at the suggestion of longtime family friend and famed illustrator Charles Dana Gibson, he started to employ the camera previously used to record his painting subjects as his basic creative medium. In approximately 1917, Johnston was hired by famed New York City live-theater showman and producer Florenz Ziegfeld as a contracted photographer, and was affiliated with the Ziegfeld Follies for the next fifteen years or so. He photographed several hundred actresses and showgirls (mainly in New York City, and whether they were part of the Follies or not) during that time period.
