Canberra’s Dylan Schwarz hits the pavement with a gleaming smile and a spring in his step.
A high quality, limited edition print of my original painting, "As he runs, the quiet world turns under his feet" on Ilford Galerie Textured Cotton Rag 310gsm Matt Paper. One of my favourite motifs - a lone tree on a hillside at sunset - it's simple yet evocative, leaving plenty of room for creative interpretation and expression. This painting is based on my walks around the Wanniassa Hills in the south of Canberra, where most of the forest was cleared for pasture long ago. It has a strikingly desolate beauty, particularly at sunset when everything turns to gold. I added the running man in memory of a jogger who slogged past me up the hill, eyes focused on the track at his feet, ears enclosed by headphones, deaf to the evening birdsong, blind to the glory of the setting sun. To me he was a metaphor, representing our preoccupation with our daily lives, our ambitions, our problems, our jealousies, not seeing or appreciating the beauty of the natural world around us.
