This is a close-up view of the Beijing National Aquatics Center (北京國家游泳中心), otherwise known as the Water Cube (水立方). It was built alongside the Bird’s Nest in the Olympic Green for the swimming competitions of the 2008 Summer Olympics. I have seen it in media a lot but have never been in person until now. It really does look like a lot of water bubbles. Up close, you will see that the facade is translucent with its supporting frame somewhat exposed. At night, it also puts on a light show. But personally I prefer the daytime view better.
