(THE POST IS NOT INCLUDED WITH THIS LISTING) The roof barge board and lower front plate iis carved with a Fire Weed carving symbolic of the Holy Spirit. The shrine is made of Western Red Cedar and is fully doweled with over 70 Black Locust Dowels. No metal screws or nails are used in the construction. The shrine is constructed to be very durable in an outdoor environment for many years. The roof is solid cedar with roof shingles carved into the solid cedar. There are no fillers or plywood or any other cheap construction. This is the real deal. We frequently have customers write us about the level of detail and quality of construction. Photographs do not do the shrine justice. We sell more shrines when people can actually see them in person. This is true Old World craftsmanship of long ago. Made in the traditional European Alpine style, with our own unique detailed design. The carving is relief carving not laser etched into flat wood. Similar shrines sold in Germany cost well over $1,000.00 The Hummel Wayside Devotional series is reminiscent of this shrine. We have tested the shrines now for over 14 years and we know that with only a minimal care they can be kept in new like condition in the outdoors for decades. To maintain the color of the shrine, periodic re-staining is all that is needed. For a shrine this size this takes about 10 minutes to do, and you will probably only need to do this every other year or even less often. We provide detailed maintenance instructions. Carved posts are available for separate purchase. The shrine comes ready to mount to a post or wall. The shrine is fully assembled and comes with mounting hardware. The Wayside Chapel is a tiny church located along U.S. Route 2 in Washington state. A remnant of the 1962 World's Fair in Seattle, the church continues on.
