August 2018 Facilitated by Kirstyn Hom, Ava Sayaka Rosen, Kristin Scheel Open Windows Cooperative, a community print shop, bindery and collaboration space in the Bayview, hosted a public weaving project at sites around our neighborhood throughout the summer. Our hand-built loom traveled on casters to pressure points around the transit corridor of Third Avenue. We invited friends and passersby to contribute old clothes and leftover fabric —material with stories to tell— to recycle into the rag rug we took turns weaving together. The ancient art of hand weaving maintains relevance and power as a form of storytelling as well manufacturing. The use of traditional tools and a more tactile process soothes us in an increasingly mechanized age. Our hope is that by weaving together, we can facilitate a more immediate and intuitive dialogue with our community.

sample 11. What does Jane mean when she says I am using the HUCK Tie-UPs? Did she rethread the heddles? Or use the same threading and switch to the page that says Lace Threadings for treadling? I do have a direct shaft loom of 4 shafts, so If she used the same threadings, I should be able to do this fairly easily, but Am confused what she means.
Plain weave doesn't have to be plain. Using different colors to create patterns with your plain weave is a great way to mix it up!
