Wine crates are supposed to be durable and well constructed and this allows them to be reused but also repurposed. There are numerous ways in which wine
One of the most popular projects to do with wine crates is to make tables with them. There's 3 ways to do it: Glue them together (Usually 3 or more) Affix the panels to an already-made table and create a table-top Add the wine crates as shelves into an already-made table My personal favorite is the wine panel table-top decoration, but it's also the hardest one to do to. Depending on the size of the table you may need alot of panels to complete it (Approx. 2 panels covers 1 square foot). You may also want to finish the top or place a custom-made piece of glass over it. If you want to stain or varnish the tabletop, the panels will need to be perfectly straight and pre-sanded so the finish goes on smoothly. The easiest way to do this is to buy the already prepared panels at Wine Crates and Boxes By Clicking on wine panels you can choose how many you need based on your square footage. All of our panels are professionally inspected for straightness and ready for finish. You can start the project the moment they're delivered to your door! The other two options are a bit easier to do. Making a coffee table for instance can be done by standing four crates together (Brandings facing up) like this one: Offbeat Home A custom glass piece was placed on top and it looks beautiful. I've seen projects where they place a centerpiece in the middle of the gap to store wine corks! ---------- Another example of an elegant yet simple DIY wine crate table project is below: This is a side table with legs attached to it. One wine crate was glued on top of the other in an uneven fashion to give it an authentic vineyard feel. ---------- We now move onto the wine panel tabletops. The next 5 pictures represent a variety of distinctive creations. None are alike in any way. Alpine Wine Designs One of my favorite wine table makers is Alpine Wine Designs. The owner Brad is a genius, and the above picture is a Napa inspired tasting table made exclusively with wine panels from high-end California wine crate panels ---------- Next is a large dining table with 25 panels of assorted sizes and vineyards. This masterpiece took quite a while to make! Another example of a masterpiece is this remarkable coffee table that has wine panels adorning both the top and legs The next piece is a side table with only one panel in the center, and it's not a wine panel but rather it's a lid for a an old-style liquor crate. You can easily replace the liquor crate lid with a wine crate lid instead. The last piece in the wine panel tabletop collection is colorful and somewhat complex to make. Although it's a fairly small deck table, it's covered with panels that were finished with different stains (Cherry, Mahogany and Oak) Last but not least is an example of a tasting table that has wine crates as drawers, and wine panels on the top! Love it. Lumber Jocks If your looking to create your own unique wine crate project but need the wine crates or panels visit www.winecratesandboxes.com and speak directly with me. Wine panels are the branded sides of original wine crates with the artwork of the vineyard that made them. Once removed they become like tiles which can be used to decorate walls, floors, ceilings and tabletops. The most popular wine panel decoration are for walls. The pictures below display wine cellars, wine rooms, bars, dining rooms, kitchen nooks and wainscots with wine panels adorning them all. The above picture is a unique breakfast nook. There's about 30 panels on the wall and around 10 built into the table - Casaejardim This is a kitchen wainscot made exclusively from very exclusive Bordeaux vineyards such as Petrus, DRC, Cheval Blanc and First Growth. Although it looks like a wall it's really a barn door which was kept in a modern home and remodeled. It's got a mixture of wine panels and reclaimed wood finished with lacquer Ritz Carlton in Dallas did a major remodel of one of their penthouses several years ago. This is a picture of the wine room. Several hundred were needed to cover the walls, and it was done in what looks to be a random pattern but the project was brilliantly planned for. This is a tall wine panel wall in a wine bar. The entire piece was finished in a honey lacquer. Gorgeous. Time Out Chicago did a piece on a famous Italian restaurant in Chicago called Davanti Enoteca. This is the wine panel wall in one of their bar rooms. It's theme is a mix of New and Old world vineyards arranged to create a 3D effect. The above is a modern living room with a 100 square foot wine panel wall. It's got a nice mixture of French, Italian and Napa panels. Here's another kitchen nook that was featured in Better Homes and Gardens. It's a nice area for wine, and there's about 20 panels in the center wall and 10 on the trim above. Wainscot wine panel wall for a private bar. Very elegant. My personal favorite is this one. It's a downstairs kitchen/dining area with the staircase wall covered in about 50 New World wine panels. There's a nice mix of Napa Valley, Spanish and Australian vineyards on the wall. If your looking to do your own wine panel wall get in touch! We can help you determine how many panels you'll need. We can also assist in choosing the specifics. If your looking for French, Spanish, Italian or Napa Valley panels we can accommodate to a degree based on current stock. Anything on wheels is a winning design in my book. I am constantly moving things around in my house as well as my studio. This idea for turning 3 recycled wine crates into a rolling storage cart is…
Ever since my bridal shower almost two years ago, I've been dying to transform the wine crates used in the table centerpieces into something functional for the house. I considered turning them into shelving, but there isn't anywhere in the bungalow I'd like to keep them, so I decided to use them as storage baskets instead. I headed to Home Depot to pick up some thick rope to use for the handles and waited for a warm, sunny day when I could head out and stain them. In the meantime, I sanded them down and made use of my brand new sander - so fun! This is what the wine crates looked like before: When the sunny day finally came, I grabbed some stain at my local hardware store. I decided on Minwax Wood Finish in Special Walnut because I wanted a dark brown stain without much red in it. Plus I liked that it was "special" walnut! I started by staining the bottom first in case I didn't end up liking the color (I used a cheap ikea paint brush, probably not the right utensil, but it worked). Then I stained the 4 sides and finally the inside. Jon helped a little bit. He likes to jump on and help with my projects after I've started them. I waited 5-15 mins and then wiped the sides down, just as the directions said. Admittedly I did not read the directions right away, so the stain did sit for a little longer in some spots, but I made sure to scrub it down with a rag to get any sticky excess stain off. It was a gorgeous day when I did the staining so I left the crates in the sun to dry for a few hours. Then I grabbed Jon and had him drill the holes for the rope handles. The rope was 3/8" thick and so was the drill bit we used. To get the measurements for the drill holes I just eyeballed it first to decide the best position. I didn't want them exactly centered from top to bottom, just a smidge higher than the middle. So we measured 3" down from the top and 4" from each side, then consulted the level just to be sure before drilling. Putting the rope in was little snug, but it worked. I made knots on the insides of the crates so the handles would stay. Here are some more photos of the finished crates. I LOVE how they turned out! My attempt at being artistic in my photography... Close up of the rope handles... The wood was a little different between the two crates, which I think adds some interest to both pieces... And finally, on display in our family room... What do you think? Have you transformed your own set of wine crates? How did you do it? ~Amy

Unique and unusual placemats, made from up-cycled wine boxes from French Vineyards. They have been stained a natural oak colour, with a soft and protective velvet backing and a grosgrain ribbon round the edge. You may choose the colour of the ribbon and velvet: dark green, navy blue, burgundy red or black. These placemats have been inspired by my love of wine and the vineyards local to me - I buy boxes of wine every few months and have always wanted to find a way to use the materials afterwards. I’m thrilled to now be making these placemats for others - no one else will have anything like it on their dinner tables! *If you are looking for express making and shipping, please contact me first so that I can confirm if I have capacity* The measurements of the placemats are approx 31cm x 17cm x 1cm (these measurements may occasionally vary, but I will always endeavour to ensure a set of placemats are the same size as each other and not to repeat a design more than once in a larger set). Please note that the panels are real pine, and therefore have knots, occasionally small nicks and natural colourings to the grain. There will sometimes be a ‘curve’ to the wood, but this will be slight and should not affect dining experience.

Spring has sprung and it’s that time of the year when happiness is all around us. From the youthful flowers to the cheerful birds, everybody seems to be
You have a few options when building a DIY table or shelf made of wooden wine boxes. There's alot of considerations to take into account, and depending on the level of quality your looking for, the project can go from easy to complex pretty quickly. The table or shelf doesn't need to be made from the actual boxes themselves. Every wine box has a branded side with the artwork of the vineyard that made it. This side can be removed from the box, and these sides are called wine panels which can be placed on surfaces like tiles. You can take an existing table and apply wine panels to a table-top like this: or like this: Although this kind of project appears easy (Simply lay down the panels onto the top) it's not. The first thing you'll need are alot of perfectly straight panels. Depending on the size of the table will depend on how many panels you'll need to cover (Approx. 2 panels covers 1 square foot). In order to get one straight panel you'll need to dismantle at least two wine crates. This is because the wood from wine crates is unfinished and prone to bending. Your best bet is to order the wine panels already inspected, prepared and done so you can start the project immediately. Breaking up hundreds of wine crates is time-consuming, expensive, and there's no guarantee they'll all work for the project. Visit the Wine Panels page to order them directly. Your next consideration for building this kind of table is it's condition. Does it need repair or finishing? Are you going to layer the panels on top of the original table-top, or replace it all together? The above tables are finished with the panels replacing the table-top and they're all flush to the sides of the table. These were professionally done and took several days to complete. Make sure to plan accordingly. One of my favorite wine panel tables is this one: It's a small outdoor table which appears like it was easily to put together. What makes it unique is that the panels were stained with 3 different colors. It's a work of art which inspires conversation without a doubt. Another wine crate table option is to add drawers to one. This can be fairly easy so long as the drawer cubbies can fit wine crates. The average size of a 12 bottle wine crate is 19 1/2" L X 13" W X 7" H. You can buy wine crates for this project on the Wine Crates page. Below are some examples of tables turned into wine crate shelves: Add a small wine rack to the bottom: And finally a mix of both options: A table-top adorned with wine panels above a wine crate chest of drawers! Lumberjocks Last but not least, making a table out of the wine crate itself like this: The tricky part is the legs. If you've ever built a chair or table you know! The leveling to assure balance is the most important aspect, but once that hurdle is done you have a very elegant and unique piece. You can also put build several wine crates together to make a table that can include casters and shelves like this: The table above is fairly elaborate with a glass table-top. Not an easy DIY. It gets alot easier sans the shelves and glass. As you can see there's alot of room for creativity when it comes to wine crate tables, and there's new styles being invented everyday.
