This is a worksheet/assessment created for second grade that focuses on the correct use of abbreviations. It goes well with the Harcourt Trophies series and the story Mr. Putter and Tabby Fly the Plane, but it can be used without the story to review or assess abbreviations as well.
Do you have a favorite book series? I do! Mr. Putter and Tabby Series just purrs right into my heart. Read about some fun activities for this book!
Grab a putter and practice articulation while golfing in your classroom! Give your students a treat in speech with this fun activity. Simple no prep worksheets that you can use with a toy putting green, golfing set, or with a putter and a cup! Something different and engaging! This activity was designed to be a simple, no-prep activity to target articulation. This version includes the following sounds: initial/mediial/final: k, g, f, v, l, s, z, sh, ch, th, j, lblends, rblends, sblends (sp, st, sm, sn, sk, sl, sw, mixed), pre-vocalic r, er, or, ar, air, ear, ire. It also includes a fully editable version (insert your own pictures and add your own text). Materials needed: golf ball & putter; toy putting green, toy putting set, or cup (materials not included, this download only contains the no prep articulation pages to use with these materials). I found all my golf toys on Amazon. Suggested use: Print out an Articulation Putting Green page for each student according to their target sound. I have the students color each ball while practicing the words at the beginning of the session. I get most of my trials in at the table before we actually golf. I have my students cut them in strips by row (they could also cut them into individual cards). Then we use them with one of the following: 1. Putting Green Toy. The students will line up the strips on the putting green and place a ball over one of the targets (or in front if the ball rolls off). The student hit the ball with the putter and try to make it in the hole (the therapist will determine the number of trials per target). 2. Putting Toy: Same as the putting green except you would just put the strips on the ground and they will putt to the hole/target that comes with the set. 3. Cup: Place a mug or cup on the ground across the room. Complete the steps mentioned before and the student will try to hit the golf ball into the cup (instead of a hole or target). Fraction Operations (Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying & Dividing Fractions and Mixed Numbers) - Golf Game: This is a fun way to work through practice problems with fractions. (Mixed numbers included, but no negatives.) Students "play" each hole on the course (5 hole-worksheet) by pulling a "driver" card, then an "iron" and then as many "putter" cards as necessary to sink the ball (get one right). Each card has a problem with fraction addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. The golf worksheet has room for work, answers, and scores. A correct answer is 1 stroke. An incorrect answer lands your ball in the sand/water/etc. and forces you to add a stroke. Each player checks the opponent's answers (Answer charts are included). Some special cards give chances to get a "birdie" by answering a challenging problem correctly. The student then hits directly onto the green. He/she can then skip the iron card and go straight to putting. Check out the preview file for more details. ** NOTE: This resource is also available as part of a DISCOUNTED bundle: Fractions, Decimals, & Percents Activity Bundle You may also like: Middle School Pre-Algebra Super Bundle Fractions, Decimals, & Percents: Always, Sometimes, Never The Number System: Ordering Activity

Using the context of this entertaining Read Aloud, students are asked to identify the naming part when given the action part. The remainder of the worksheet requires them to put the action parts in chronological order, write their own original complete sentence synthesizing their understanding of the story and then rewrite their complete paragraph after the topic sentence which was highlighted at the beginning of the worksheet to reintroduce the grammar (subjects and predicates). Enjoy this freebie with your students and visit back for more as I develop a complete review for this series. If you are a fan of Cynthia Rylant's writing, check out Gooseberry Park: Novel Work. Putt, putt math game! Materials: Golf putter and ball from the dollar store Red plastic cups also from the dollar store Recycled tissue box or any small box Pen and paper To prepare for this activity I added the numbers 1, 2 and 3 to the cups and taped them inside a tissue box to keep them from moving. I then set up a simple chart for the children to track their points. I then invited the children to come play the game! I had the children work cooperatively by taking turns to hit the ball into one of the three cups. Depending on which cup the ball rolled into, that was the number they had to record on the chart. Play continued until each child reached their goal of ten points. The children had lots of fun with this game and I absolutely loved watching them enjoy all the learning that was going on! They were using their hand eye coordination to aim and hit the ball into the cup, their gross motor skills to have to retrieve the ball each time, their writing skills to make the numbers and their names on the chart, their math skills to perform the basic addition concepts and their social skills to work together with their peers. Lots of great learning concepts from the 2 dollars I spent at the dollar store! : )
