It seems that anyone trying to make it in a creative field has at some stage struggled with the dark cloud of self-doubt. It hardly comes as a surprise when you are going against the mainstream, creating something from nothing and in many cases working in isolation. Putting your work out for public

After watching Kid President's Pep Talk to Teachers and Students, my students and I discussed how Robby (KP) was changing the world with his inspirational Youtube videos. Then, we took some time to reflect on the ways in which we as individuals were changing the world. My third graders used this PDF to free write about the ways they were changing the world. I received comments like: "I am teaching everyone to help each other and be nice. No bullies." "I am teaching the world to be a better place because I did the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS." "How to be better: I am helping homeless people." "To be alive. To be good. To be a better reader. To be a better writer." "Use self-control." The list goes on! In the first week of school, I used this as a getting-to-know-you activity (which told me way more about my students than I ever would have imagined), but it also worked as a meaningful way to begin a conversation regarding the formation of our essential agreements as a class. Please let me know how you are using KP videos in your classroom in the comments. Thanks
