Yarn Bombing Los Angeles, a Californian arts organization comprised of self-proclaimed guerrilla knitters, is planning their next installation, creating a granny square cozy of the Los Angeles-located Craft and Folk Museum. The collaborative group have already received enough knit and crochet pieces to cover the building and are now on the hunt for a total of $8,000 in funds to cover the yarn bombing's assembly and insurance, money they hope to receive by mid-February or the entire project will become scrap yarn. For more information about the project, head to Patch.com.

When I was little I was running in the Cotswolds and climbing over rocks and ridges in Cornwall, when we were visting family. As a teenager I visited London a couple of times. I repeated that the last few years and also went to Brighton, Liverpool and Surrey. A connaisseur of England? Well, maybe. A fan of England? Definately! So I was rather excited to go to Newcastle for work. Not only because I didn't know the north of England so well yet, but also because the husbear was allowed to tag along. Much nicer traveling together. When I was a little girl I was always so impressed with Englands ich history, he castles, knights stories and cliffs. It really awoke my imagination. But over the last few years I discovered some modern phenomenons too in the UK that really spoke to me. Like the London Tate Modern, Newcastle has BALTIC. A modern museum in an old mill. I love the idea of repurposing. Add to that the old and new bridges over the river Tyne ánd the sun shining, and you really don't need much else, really. But there's plenty of lovely history in Newcastle, like Castle Keep where you can wonder through the small hallways and staircases. And you just can't miss Blackfriars, the oldest restaurant in England, in a gorgious 13th century friary on a lovely premesis. We ate there in the evening and it was amazing, only dished made with local produce. And also... a fantastic yarn store in the attic with amazing wools and soft sofas to sit and crochet on (or so I imagined, as I was busy being my journalist self instead if my crochet self). More yarn was spotted in many stalls in Englands oldest indoor market, Grainger Market. There were many little stalls selling yarn, notions and fabrics. Oh, how I wish we'd have this in The Netherlands. Every 2nd Saturday of the month there is a handmade market here, it would be so great to have a stall there. When I'm on the road for work my workdays are quite long, not 8 hours but sometimes even 18. To keep this up it's so important to rest well, so I am always worried/curious if the hotel that's been arranged will be okay. And oh yes, this hotel was very much okay. We stayed in Sandman Signature, at walking distance from Blackfriars and all the lovely shops. Our room was so nice and spacious and having a hot shower (rainshower!) after a long day is all you need. Every room has its own little kitchen, so you can keep your water bottles chilled and make a cupe of tea in the morning before devouring a big breakfast at the buffet. I definately recommend this hotel. Nog even geduld. Zijn jullie weleens in Newcastle geweest? Wat vonden jullie ervan? The most tips about Newcastle are already on my travel blog (Google Translate is your friend) and soon I will share advice on how to get the best from Newcastle during a Minicruise and I'll have a free cityguide up for free downloading (in Dutch). So stay tuned. Have you been to Newcastle upon Tyne and what did you like best?

We're beginning our yarn store tour with a picturesque shop nestled in the little mountain town of Ojai, California. Cattywampus Crafts was founded by Anna and Kirk Nozaki, shortly after the couple moved to the small town to raise their adorable daughter, Naomi. Instantly inspired by Ojai's creative community, they wanted to make their own special contribution to benefit the town. Both designers, one with the knitting bug, they decided to open a yarn shop.
