I found this little gal today at a thrift store for $1.99!! :D More pics here: nevergrowupdollguide.blogspot.com/2012/08/more-madame-ale...
I've got some exciting news for all of you BFC Ink fans out there. I got some information from one of my readers (Thanks Linda!!!) that the BFC Ink doll line has introduced a group of Pen Pal dolls from around the world. I searched all over to see if they were available anywhere, and at first, all I could find were some photos: I found these pictures on Amazon.com when I Googled "BFC Ink pen pals". Left to right are Britt (from England), Elsa (from Sweden), Carmen (from Mexico), and Nicolette (from France). Britt is my favorite out of all of them! :) One interesting thing about these dolls is that the stock photos show them with the 1st body style (with straight arms and simple knee joints). However, my reader also provided me with a link to a few completed eBay auctions for these. And if you take a look at the links (which features pictures of actual product rather than stock photos), you'll see that they have the newer super poseable bodies. You can see Britt's completed listing HERE. (When I re-edited this post, I noticed that the same seller now has an active listing for Britt!). There were several other differences that are noticeable when you see the actual dolls. For instance, Elsa has pretty severe looking eyebrows in the stock photo, but as you can see HERE, in person she looks much sweeter. Also, Nicolette appears to have darker eyes than the ones shown in her stock photo. See for yourself HERE. (I actually like Nicolette's eye color a lot better in this photo. And once again, there is now an active listing for Nicolette as well!) After doing more research (thanks to a comment on the BFC Ink Facebook page), I found out that Target.com currently has these girls available for $19.99 each! They are listed under MGA Entertainment Pen Pals dolls instead of BFC Ink, which is probably why they didn't come up under my Google search. I've included a direct link to Target's page HERE. It's getting awfully close to Christmas, but there's still a chance you could snag one of these beauties for that special girl in your life...or yourself! ;) I'm super excited about these girls. As I've already demonstrated in earlier posts, I think that the BFC Ink dolls work really well as older sisters for the Hearts 4 Hearts Girls. Now that they're releasing them from different countries, I think there will be even more possibilities for finding great sister combinations. :) What about you? Which BFC Ink Pen Pal doll is your favorite?
Earlier today I saw a post on Doll Diaries about how to make no sew dresses for dolls. I wanted to try this method out a see what I coul...
So after consulting with Hubby, I decided to open up both dolls and have a nice, long photo shoot. I knew I'd lose out on shipping to return a doll to Amazon anyway, and I knew I could recover at least a good portion of what I paid by reselling the doll I didn't keep. If I was made of money and had unlimited space, both of these gals would so be staying with me! But since I've spent a bit already this month, I'm going to choose one. Trouble is, I'm still trying to decide! :} (Warning, as is a usual thing with most of my posts, this one is super photo heavy!) Here are the two cuties in question: Zelia and Lauryce. Zelia has lovely reddish-brown hair, fair skin, and brown eyes. She does definitely have Nahji's face mold. Lauryce has honey-blonde, crimped hair, warm tan skin, and golden brown eyes. She has a different face mold that I haven't been able to identify yet. I do know that it's not Nahji's or Consuelo's, and I'm pretty sure it's not Rahel's either. Zelia looks loads better without her yellow jacket on. Her outfit is very casual but cute. She has a really sweet face. Zelia and Lauryce And here they both are with Nahji. I wanted to see how each doll looked with her since she's the one I already have. I've decided I'd like to have between three and four Hearts For Hearts Girls dolls (at least for now), and I know that I want Mosi when she's released. I've also been leaning towards Consuelo, but I think I'll wait until Mosi comes out, just in case she and Consuelo look too similar. Anyway, because I'm planning on a small H4H collection, I wanted to make sure that the dolls I have are ones that I love and also look unique from each other. Zelia and Nahji Lauryce and Nahji See why I'm having such a hard time deciding? ;) I thought I'd also get some pics of all of the details on both dolls since I had them free of their boxes. :) Lauryce: This little gal is super photogenic and has a really unique hair/eye/skin color combination. A view from the back of her lovely crimped hair. Her hair felt every bit as soft as the previously released Hearts For Hearts Girls dolls, which was a relief to me. I've been so impressed with the hair quality of the H4H line...I'm glad that continued with the new releases. Her earrings are a pretty "silver" (though as far as I can tell, they're actually plastic). They look even cuter when they're right side up. ;) A profile shot, showing her adorable head scarf. Another shot of her cute outfit. Lauryce's silver bracelet comes on her right wrist (like her earrings, it does not appear to be real silver). She comes with 4 bright plastic bracelets on her left wrist. Her lavender shoes. Zelia: This little gal is a real sweetie. Even though she's from Brazil, I think she could work as a character from any number of countries. She's really got that average 10-year-old girl look. Her cute butterfly (or maybe dragonfly?) earrings. Her profile shot, showing her side ponytail with green and blue hair elastics. I'm curious to see what her hair looks like out of the side ponytail (of course, I haven't taken it out since I'm still deciding which doll to keep). I really love her outfit. It's simple but very versatile. Zelia does not have any sort of bracelets. (I think she's the first aside from Nahji who didn't come with any of the stretchy plastic bracelets). This is most likely because she came with a jacket. Still, I thought it was a shame that she didn't come with any sort of wrist wear. Her shoes are so cute! :) As you all know, I've mentioned several times how well these dolls work as little sisters to the BFC Ink dolls. I thought I'd include a few pics of them with some possible older siblings (I figured I'd better take advantage of the opportunity now, since most of the BFC Inks in these photos are currently listed on eBay (Gianna and Kaitlin are actually already shipped and on their way to their new home). Zelia and Gianna Zelia and Nicolette (she's one I'm keeping!) Lauryce and CJ I thought it was interesting that these two had almost exactly the same eye color! Lauryce and Kaitlin Consuelo and Aleisha I know Consuelo's not one of the dolls I'm reviewing in this post, but she looked so cute with Aleisha and Noelle that I just had to include her! ;) Conseulo and Noelle (also a BFC Ink that I'm keeping) So now, it's decision time. I'm planning on making the final decision, but I'd love to have all of your input, too. Which doll do you prefer, Zelia or Lauryce? I keep going back and forth, myself. ;) To help make an informed decision, I've listed some of the pros and cons for keeping each below. Zelia Pros: 1. I love her coloring, which provides somewhat of a contrast to Nahji. 2. I love her outfit, shoes, and earrings. 3. Her outfit could be mixed and matched easily. 4. I love redheaded and/or brown-eyed dolls. 5. Her straight hair would be easy to care for. 6. For now, at least, she seems to be less popular online than Lauryce, making my photos of her more unique. Cons: 1. She has the same face mold as Nahji, and I like the idea of having dolls with different face molds. 2. While I like brown-eyed dolls, if I end up with Mosi or Consuelo and already have Nahji, then all of my H4Hs would have brown eyes. Do I want more variety? Lauryce: Pros: 1. I love her crimped hair and her head scarf. 2. Her look is really unique. 3. She's super photogenic. 4. She has a different face mold and very different hair and eye color than Nahji, making her a unique addition to my collection. 5. I love her bracelet and earrings. Cons: 1. I wonder if her hair will be hard to take care of since it's not straight. 2. Her eyes are lovely, but she does tend to have a bit of an "intense" gaze compared to Zelia. 3. I think Zelia's coloring might possibly work a little better with some of the extra outfits I have for them. 4. Since she is more popular online, there are lots more pics of Lauryce than Zelia right now. Does that matter? Maybe, maybe not. Okay, guys...time for your two cents. What are your thoughts? ;) I'll be sure to let everyone know when I make my decision (and when I list the extra doll on eBay). UPDATE: To see which one I chose, click HERE! :)

I like Best Friend Club dolls.They are very nice dolls with goods quality for a good price. Since I make outfits for my dolls and I not really like plastic shoes BFC dolls have so I started making shoes as well.In these photos all cloths and shoes I made.
Sassy comes in small packages. Accessorize your dolls for every occasion with these stylish, quick-to-make belts. Jazz it up with rhinestones and play with fancy fabrics like suede or vinyl. Dress it up with a snazzy buckle and voilà! ‒ your doll is ready for the runway. Because dolls dress up, too, you know! … More
I have a few family events coming up, so I won't be around much next week. I'm having a hard time getting the "schedule posts" feature to work since Blogger switched over to the new look (anyone else having this problem?), so I'm going to try to get some extra posts done this week to tide you over while I'm gone. ;) About a month ago or so, I won a lot of BFC Ink dolls on eBay (a couple of them are featured in my header). ;) I was so excited! The price was very reasonable, and all of the girls were in excellent shape. I was especially thrilled that the lot included Calista and Yuko. These dolls are harder to find and normally cost a pretty penny! Here are the four new gals: Kaitlin, Calista, Addison, and Yuko. :) None of the girls came dressed, so I had to provide clothes for them. Thankfully, I had some extra BFC Ink sized clothing. One outfit was one I found after winning the dolls, though... I was in my local Kmart, and they happened to have a few BFC Ink outfits on sale for $2.50 each! I've always liked the "Simply Sweet" outfit, so I picked it up. :) Addison looks adorable in this. (Calista does too! She was the one who tried it first.) ;) I especially love the color and the polka dots on the shirt. I would prefer shorts that were a little bit longer, but these will do for now. I'm not really sure why this set came with bright yellow shoes, :} but I've noticed that the BFC Ink shoes don't always match really well with the outfits they come with. I just love how poseable these dolls are! It makes photographing them so much fun. :) Addison is a really cute doll (and the personal favorite BFC Ink doll of my oldest daughter). Her hair looks very reddish brown in person, which surprised me, because in many of her photos (and even this one!) it looks like a more typical brunette color. She has two curly strands of hair in the front, and the rest is a wavy, half curly look. A bit disappointing, though still pretty. I'm pretty sure that Addison and my new Kaitlin are from the line that came dressed in swimsuits, judging by the differences between their hairstyles and the original dolls' hairstyles. Calista is a gorgeous doll. I've never seen her in person before, but now that I have, I'm definitely impressed. Like the other dolls, she has a few really pretty curly strands of hair towards the front (that make her look nice in the box) and the rest of her hair is just slightly wavy. For now, though, her hair looks nice. I figure if I leave it alone it should last for a while at least. :) I was so pleased when I took a picture of Calista and Nahji together. They make the PERFECT sisters! :) I wanted to take a picture of Calista with Rahel, too. They also look cute together... ...but I think Nahji and Calista look like they were actually made to be sisters. Their skin tone is almost identical! And here is lovely Yuko. This particular doll was customized by her previous owner. She has fake eyelashes and eyeliner (I believe she used colored pencil for the eyeliner). I think the original Yuko is adorable too, but I love how the eye makeup and eyelashes really make her eyes stand out. :) A closer look at her lashes. The only problem I have with them is that her hair gets caught in them constantly! :{ Her previous owner kept her hair partially pulled back to avoid this problem, but I love how her hair looks when it's loose, so I'll probably just deal with the hair/eyelash thing. ;) Yuko is absolutely stunning. :) The additional Kaitlin was a cutie, too. You're probably wondering why I got her when I already have 2 other Kaitlins. Well, first off, she was part of the lot, and I was more interested in the other dolls. That aside, though, I loved that she had the softer facial expression of my first Kaitlin, but had the fully poseable body of the later dolls. You can see what I mean in these next couple of pictures. My first Kaitlin is on the left. I think her expression is still the cutest of all, but new Kaitlin's is pretty close. Much closer than my 2nd Kaitlin's (on the right). See how 2nd Kaitlin's eyebrows curve downward? I think it gives her more of a sassy teen look, while the other two have a gentler, more innocent look. Newest Kaitlin's hair also has less curl and is a little smoother than my first Kaitlin's. Here are the first two Kaitlins, decked out in the other $2.50 outfits from Kmart. Obviously, I won't be keeping all three, but I'm still figuring out which one will be staying. At this point, I'm leaning towards the newest one, just because I really prefer the newer, more poseable joints. I didn't realize how very similar Addison and Kaitlin look in the face. It looks like they have the same face mold. I'm trying to decide if Britt has the same face mold as well. It looks very similar, and yet there's something about her face (aside from the coloring) that seems different than the other girls. Maybe it's just me. ;) So here are the gals I'm currently keeping: Kaitlin, Britt, Calista, Yuko, and Addison. I love the beautiful variety of skin tones and hair/eye color combinations in this group. :) I'm thinking about changing some of their names, but honestly, I haven't had a lot of time to sit down with them and figure all of that out. I do enjoy looking at them on my shelf, though. :) I also may end up getting rid of a couple of them eventually, just because I don't want to get overwhelmed with too many dolls. I want to wait to make that decision for now, though. These dolls are getting harder and harder to find at good prices, and I'd hate to get rid of one and then regret it. ;) A few weeks after this purchase, I was able to get a lovely Nicolette doll (the BFC Ink Pen Pal doll from France). I've always loved the brown eye/blonde hair combination, and the Pen Pal dolls never came to my local stores, so I was very excited to have this little lady join the dolly family. :) I'm so drawn to her sweet little face. :) My Nicolette came with her own custom pink earrings to match her dress. Her dress is a little shorter than I care for, which is too bad, because it's very cute otherwise. I was curious to see how similar Kaitlin and Nicolette would look side by side. They have the same face mold and an almost identical hair color. Their eyes are different colors, and somehow they still looked different enough from each other that I didn't feel like I needed to choose between them. I think the fact that Nicolette's eyebrows and eyelashes are painted a darker shade of brown is helpful. I also think they look like they could be sisters. What do you think? If there's one thing I'd change about Nicolette, it would be her name. I keep thinking of Nicorette gum whenever I say her name. :} Like the other gals, Nicolette is very poseable and photogenic: These dolls are not the highest quality. Their limbs tend to get loose very quickly, and their hair is atrocious. Somehow, though, I keep going back to them. I love the extra options for photos that their poseability brings. I really like their faces, and I love the fact that they make such perfect big sisters for the Hearts For Hearts girls. I think I'd give them a 4 out of 5 stars. The lacking star would be for the hair and joint problems I've mentioned. The hair does best if it is left alone or put in an updo. The joints last the longest if they receive minimal play. Because of these issues, I think (as I've mentioned in previous posts) that these dolls could be frustrating for younger doll enthusiasts, and therefore would be best for careful older children or collectors. Which BFC Ink dolls are your favorites? :)
Ever since I found my undressed BFC Ink doll (you can read more about that HERE), my mom has been on the lookout for clothing for her. I did have a sundress that fit her, but it was a lot shorter than I would prefer. A few weeks ago, my mom was at Salvation Army and found an adorable dress for around $3 that looked like it would fit. She brought it over and we tried it. I'm absolutely thrilled with the results. :) Obviously, this isn't a current "trendy" style, but I like it. It makes her look soft and feminine. :) The layered skirt is very pretty and nice and long. I love how the print of the fabric ended up matching the shoes I already had for her, too! :) Not only that, but the greens in the fabric really compliment her pretty green eyes. Back view. The dress closes in the back with 3 tiny buttons. Beautiful Katelyn. :) Not long after this discovery, my mom was in Kmart, and they had an extra percentage off of their clearance priced toys. Mom noticed that they had the BFC Ink "Sun N Fun" swimwear set on clearance. It was already marked down to $5.00, but by the time the extra discount was applied, mom ended up paying about $2! :) She's the best at finding good deals! I so appreciate that they went for a more modest look with this swimsuit. I don't care for bikinis, and I wasn't too impressed with the swimsuits that the fully jointed dolls come with due to the amount of "skin" showing. I think this is a much better swimwear option. The shoulder straps are made of ribbon. If you plan on purchasing this for a younger girl, I don't know how long the ribbon would last. You may have to have a plan B in place, just in case. ;) The swimsuit has Velcro closure in the back. The bottoms just slide on. I loved that it was actually made from swimsuit material. It also came with this cute coordinating rash guard. Even nicer on the modesty scale! I'd love to find some matching board shorts somewhere. :) The set included this cute see-through beach bag and towel. I had to laugh when I took the towel out of the packaging. It's really more like a glorified washrag. The picture didn't capture it the way I wanted it to. Let's just say I don't think Katelyn would be very dry after her swim. ;) I mean, it looks more like a waiter's napkin than a towel! Overall, I was very pleased with my mom's finds. I think Katelyn looks much better in these outfits than in the orange sundress. :}
My complete BFC Ink doll collection. Left to Right: Aliesha, Kaitlin, Yuko, and Gianna.
Right before Middle Gal's party, my mom found another BFC Ink Kaitlin doll at Salvation Army. This one was one of the fully jointed versions (yay!). Her hair was pretty messy! She had her original dress and vest... ...and her legwarmers too, but no boots. I was amazed to see the difference in the faces of my two Kaitlins. The fully jointed Kaitlin (on the left) has eyebrows much closer to her eyes, which gives her an older, more teenaged look. I think my older Kaitlin (on the right) looks more sweet and innocent. Since the new Kaitlin's hair was such a mess and I knew I'd have to wash it, I decided to take out her braids. I opted for shampoo and conditioner rather than downy since her hair seemed dirty and I knew it wasn't the greatest quality anyway. Drying hair dolly style! :) Here she is with her hair all dry. I was a bit disappointed with the final results. Her hair looked great on top but was still incredibly fluffy and dry on the bottom. She was still a lovely doll, though. After a few weeks, I decided to try rewigging her. My original plan was to use this doll to replace my old Kaitlin, because I prefer the fully jointed body style. However, I liked my older Kaitlin's face better, and I didn't need two identical dolls. So off came her hair! I used scissors to get the hair cut as close to her head as I could. After these pics were taken, my mom actually used her hair clippers on Kaitlin 2 and was able to get the hair even closer to the scalp. And so began the great wig fitting, as I tried to figure out the best look for my newest BFC Ink doll: This one was a Blythe wig from eBay seller shopoholican. This was a "Carmen" wig from I believe Global dolls. A crimped "Alice" wig from...um...I don't remember which wig company. A size 10 "Rose" wig purchased from Prillycharmin.com. Hailey's old auburn wig...a "Denise" from Monique dolls. Emily's old blonde wig...the same style and company as the previous wig. In the end, I decided to remove the pin curls from the "Carmen" wig and have it down all the way. I really liked this look on Kaitlin 2 (who is still awaiting a new name...and awaiting her fate. I may end up reselling her, but I haven't decided yet). After fiddling around for a bit, I decided to try a side part with the same wig. I thought it gave it a little more elegance. Lol...of course, after all this, about 2 weeks later I switched back to the crimped "Alice" wig. At Hubby's recommendation, I used a claw to clip back part of her hair, and it made a world of difference! I just can't seem to make up my mind! :} Which look do you like best?
Here she is! My first custom AG doll, Fable. Before starting this project I made a promise to myself. I would not alter or post pictures of my new doll until I had successfully launched my Etsy store, Pip & Twitch. As of May 9th, my store has been open! I sell prints of my original paintings and paper cut art. Check it out =] www.etsy.com/shop/PipAndTwitch My original intention was to put Ruthie's wig onto Marie Grace but in the end the combo did not seem just right to me. BUT…. I fell in LOVE with Marie Grace's wig on Ruthie. I had the idea months ago but was too nervous to take the plunge, make the purchase, and then to actually modify a doll. However once I heard about the potential, impending retirement of these two I decided to get on it. Fable has the classic face mold with light lip coloring and grey eyes. Her hair is a light reddish brown color with blonde highlights only in the top layer of her wig. It reaches down to her hips in soft waves. I also gave her custom, hand-painted freckles which I think suit her beautifully. Plus I am AMAZED as to how well MG's hair color matches Ruthie's eyebrows considering how dark Ruthie's hair is in comparison.

Hi, it's me again...Beast'sbelle, I mean. Not Maggie. I'd just like to start out by saying that I claim no responsibility for Maggie's overzealous advertising about her blog in the previous post. It was nice to not have to think up something clever for my 200th post, but my goodness! You see what I have to put up with? I think I'm going to have to keep an eye on her for a while. ;) Okay, back on topic! One of the doll lines that I've really been wanting to review for the blog is the BFC Ink doll line (aka Best Friends Club Ink). These dolls are anywhere from $20 to $30 each, and as my budget is quite restricted at this time, I figured a BFC Ink doll review would be a long way off. Then I got a mailing from Amazon.com, informing me that I had $27.90 in rewards points to spend on their site! :D I've been really trying to watch what I spend, so this was an extra special blessing. :) It took me a while to decide how I was going to spend my rewards points, but when I saw the BFC Ink dolls, I decided that this was a great opportunity. I could do a doll review on a brand new doll for about $2 out of my own pocket. It was a bit of a sacrifice, as my other choice was my "Tale As Old As Time: The Art and Making of Beauty and the Beast" book that I've been wanting for a while. In the end, though, my desire for a well-rounded blog won out. I figured I could either resell the doll after I was done or keep her if I absolutely fell in love. :) I decided on Gianna, the redhead with blue eyes and freckles (the package says blue/green eyes, but in person they look more like a deep blue). I placed my order and counted the days until she came. Last Wednesday, my Amazon package arrived. :D Hubby was sweet enough to bring it over to my mom's, where the girls and I were staying for a few days. [Remember our breaker problem with our house? Hubby was able to solve it with the help of his dad, my dad, and my brother, but it took them a couple of days. During that time, the house had no power, so we needed another place to stay in the meantime. My mom was great and opened her home to us while the guys worked.] WARNING: PART OF THIS POST WILL FEATURE PICTURES OF A NUDE DOLL WITH A DEVELOPED FIGURE. If this is offensive to you, please skip this post. Okay, I don't know how I always manage to get off on these long paragraphs before I actually show the pics, but I'm honestly moving on now! ;) My Amazon.com box. :) Here she is, still in the box! (You can see my daughters' feet to the left.) :) Sorry these pics aren't the best. I'm not used to the lighting at my mom's. :} Some of Gianna's accessories. The back of the box. Once our power returned and I got home, I continued the photo shoot in my more familiar lighting. :) Here she is with her box and all of her accessories. Gianna's brush, sweater, glasses, and purse. Gianna's journal and a BFC Ink membership card. I haven't opened the journal, as I hope to resell everything. I understand from the website and other reviews that the journal features entries from the doll and then has blank spots for your daughter to write her own thoughts as well. I wasn't too impressed with the excerpts I read online. Many of the issues they were dealing with were things I wouldn't necessarily want to introduce to my oldest daughter yet (she's within the target age range). Nothing obscene or risque, of course, just teenage issues that I don't think my second grader needs to worry about yet. :) Each doll also includes a special code to unlock online games and activities, much like Karito Kids, Innerstar U, or Hearts 4 Hearts Girls. I didn't use the code for the same reason I didn't open the journal. A view from the box. Doll Statistics: (I went ahead and used the same facts as I did for my Doll Comparison Post. Please remember that all measurements are approximate!) - Head Circumference: 11" (wig size would be either a stretchy 10-11 or an 11-12) -Shoulders: a little over 10" wide -Arms: about 7 1/4" long -Chest: 8 1/4" wide -Waist: 6 1/2" wide -Hips: a little over 9 1/4" wide -Legs: 9" long -Feet: about 2 3/4" long; 1" wide -Total Height: 18" -Body Style: All vinyl, slim-bodied doll with elbow, wrist, chest, knee and ankle joints, as well as poseable head, shoulders and legs. -Eyes: Stationary -Body Tag: None -Distinguishing Marks: "TM & 2009 MGA Entertainment, Inc. Made in China" on back of head (see pic below) -Availability: Can be purchased at Target, Kmart, Walmart, or Amazon.com (I've had trouble finding them locally, so Amazon.com might be your best bet). Can also be purchased on the secondary market. You can also visit BFCink.com to get more information. Here's a pic of the distinguishing marks on the back of Gianna's head. Gianna's brush. I don't know that I'd want to use this brush on her hair. Plastic bristles aren't the best for doll hair. Although, it's not like you could do much to make her hair worse, as I'll explain in a moment! :{ Here are Gianna's glasses on her face. I must say, I'm not really a fan of the "cat eye" style. In the right outfit, though, she would make a cute little 50s or 60s girl. One of the great things about this doll is her poseability. I would have loved having a doll this versatile when I was a girl! As you can see from the following pics, she can do a lot. :) While posing her was really fun, and the idea itself is great, I wasn't impressed with the quality of her joints. Right out of the box, one ankle joint was noticeably looser than the other. Her chest joint was also pretty loose directly out of the package. Shaking her slightly made her swivel back and forth. If her chest was that loose already, how floppy would she be after hours of play? Would she continue to hold a pose? Gianna comes with pretty silver earrings that have little stars on them. I know that some of the BFC Ink clothing sets come with earrings, so I'm assuming they are removable (I'm too afraid to try to take them out, though, just in case!) :} Gianna has a stunning face and is very photogenic. :) I love her freckles and her pretty, deep-blue eyes. One thing I was NOT impressed with was Gianna's hair. Her bangs were trimmed very unevenly, as you can see from the above pic. Her hair also had a crunchy gel substance in it, I'm assuming to keep it flat. Ick! The hair itself started looking messy before I even did anything with it. In a child's care, this hair would be a disaster within weeks...perhaps days, depending on the child! The "layers" in her hair were not very impressive, either. It looked like a bad haircut. My Gianna also had a pretty thin patch on the top of her head. It was covered up, but I didn't have to move the hair around much to discover it. I also found that I didn't care as much for her eyebrows. To me, she goes from sweet and innocent looking with her bangs, to taunting, cliquish high schooler with her eyebrows exposed. But maybe that's just me. I thought it would be interesting to compare Gianna to one of my American Girl dolls. For the sake of consistency, I chose Charlie, my renamed Mia St. Clair doll, which I used for the last doll comparison post. (I also want to apologize in advance for the greenish tint to Charlie's skin in some of these pics. The skin tones in this first pic are truest to their actual coloring.) As you can see, Gianna is just about the same height as Charlie, but is much slimmer. Charlie would never fit into Gianna's clothes. Gianna might be able to get away with wearing an AG t-shirt or dress (although it would be huge on her), but she'd never be able to wear AG pants, shorts or skirts. Two cuties. Here is a body style comparison. You can see all of Gianna's bendable joints. You can also see that she has painted on underwear. I actually appreciate it when they do this on vinyl-bodied dolls. I just with they'd start painting on bras, too! :) From her more developed figure (and from the story lines in the journals that accompany these dolls), you can see that she is meant to portray a teenager, while the AG dolls are meant to portray 9 to 10 year olds. Side view Back view Up Close I also took some pics of Gianna with Elena, my renamed Karito Kids doll. Her proportions actually work a little better with the KK dolls. I didn't take any pics of them undressed, but at least you get an idea of how they look together. Side view While the Karito Kids have a slightly more "realistic" feel to their faces, these dolls actually work pretty well together. They have the same stationary eyes and slimmer builds. I think Elena could work very well as an older sister for Gianna. :) Thoughts on the BFC Ink dolls: -Pros: 1. Beautiful, well-painted face mold 2. Her poseability provides great options for play and display. 3. A nice, light doll for carrying around with you. 4. A line of compatible clothing and accessories are available. -Cons: 1. Low-quality hair with a bad haircut. 2. Loose joints directly out of the package, meaning more loose joints after playtime. I was fully prepared to adore this doll and add her to my collection. After seeing her in person, though, I may go ahead and resell her. If I do, it will be hard to let her go. I love her sweet face and freckles. Her eyes are striking, and her outfit is cute (although the dress is a little too short and low-cut for my taste). I really like the idea of having a super poseable doll, too. Oh, the possibilities! :) But her poor-quality hair and questionable joint construction leave me reluctant to give this girl a completely positive review. Based on what I've observed with this doll, I would not recommend these dolls (at least the super poseable ones) for a young child. There's no way I would give Gianna to my 5 year old or 3 year old, for example, unless I wanted a doll that looked like a train wreck. And just for your information, my 5 year old is pretty careful with her toys. My 3 year old...not so much. ;) The box says ages 6 and up. Honestly, though, I'd even be reluctant to give Gianna to my 7 year old. She's pretty careful with her things, but I think she'd find it difficult to manage Gianna's hair. She might have some difficulty posing her, too, especially if her joints continued getting looser. I would recommend this doll for a careful, older child or an adult collector, especially one interested in a pretty doll to re-wig. With a new wig and limited playtime, this could be a great doll. As a side note, these dolls make great older sisters for the Hearts 4 Hearts Girls (although the H4H girls would have to be about 4 or 5 years old by comparison). ;) Both doll lines have the same slender, vinyl bodies and beautiful but almost cartoonish facial features (I mean that in a good way). I wish I had a H4H Girl to photograph next to Gianna, but I guess we can't have everything we wish for! ;) If I decide to sell Gianna, I'll probably list her on my local Craigslist fairly soon. I want to sell her before her hair makes her look more used than she is! I've decided I'll try to get around $25 for her, since I used up $27.91 of my rewards that could have gone towards something else. I figure I'll put the $25 towards a My AG #55...or possibly that Beauty and the Beast book I was considering. :D I'm still deciding. Hope you enjoyed the review. Do any of you have BFC Ink dolls? What do you think about them?
