Oh WOW! Check out this easy GALLERY WALL with command decor #DamageFreeDIY
Woa now, what’s up with that title? I must have rewritten it a dozen times before I ultimately settled on it. It’s better than the alternative I had in mind which was “So I Bought a Pair of Hands Today…” While more clever – if a little creepy (more on those hands later) – it didn’t exactly express what I wanted to share with all of you which is this: On the way to finding your home style, don’t forget to embrace all that is weird (and wonderful) in your home decor! Over the years, I’ve noticed that the things that seemed to give me the greatest pleasure, the things that put a smile on my face, have almost always been the unusual, the quirky, and, may I say, downright weird decor pieces that I’ve picked up. Mind you, my home is no ‘cabinet of curiosities’ but I do like to add a bit of quirkiness here and there. It’s these things that add an element of the unexpected and the interesting and truly personalize the home. At its core, when we give ourselves permission to even like ‘weird’ decor, let alone own or display it, we allow ourselves to […]

Because white walls are boring.
Why can't there be more people like Audrey Hepburn in the world? She was beautiful inside and out! She is inspiring too! With times changing, she was an image not to be forgotten. One word....CLASS! I thought of her the day I bought this dresser and brought it into my home. It had a 1950's feel with the square, flat look and peg legs. But I was perplexed with how I would transform this piece. As an artist, I don't really like doing things the same. It gets hard when you are painting a lot of furniture. I sometimes ponder at it way too long. This was one of those times... I decided to go with a chevron print since I hadn't done that yet but it seemed like so many have, so I started thinking outside the box again. If you follow me I tend to stray away from the norm. Sometimes good Sometimes bad I don't know. What I do know is I have to feel it! My art is all about the way I feel at the moment. So when I decided to go with color, I thought Tiffany Blue and Black. The colors are striking together. It also keeps the 50"s feel I was going for. I sat in my living room staring at it for a day and decided to hand paint a figure on it. It couldn't be any figure. It had to go with the feel of the piece. I thought of the movie Breakfast at Tiffanys. I guess because of the color. Audrey Hepburn had to be the one I painted. This decision wasn't easy. Painting a face of someone popular is hard because it has to be just right. So I chickened out. I did. I am not proud of that. Till the next day. I waited till the next morning and jumped into it thinking I could always paint over it. I have to say it was hard to do. I think it was because I wanted it to look perfect. It wasn't perfect but I loved the way it came out. No painting over it! Yipee! It was hard to paint the image with the drawers at a curve. I don't think it mattered because you are drawn into her eyes. It changed it from an ugly before.... to a 50's Mod after! If you like the ideas in this blog I would love for you to follow me. I promise it won't be boring around here! I try to mix it up a bit! I would love to hear your thoughts! Please leave a comment!

I've been wanting to do something for the bathroom door forever. A cute vintage restroom sign, unisex restroom sign from hardware store, stenciling, vinyl letters but I couldn't decide on anything. Finally got around to doing this: Materials: -Already had can of oops paint in grey (free) -Little man/woman wood cutouts from Michael's $1.99 each plus 15% total coupon (~3.50) -Frame I already had, took off glass/backing (free) - Leftover white spraypaint I already had (free) -3M command strips x8 (~$6.00 with Michael's coupon) My steps -Eyeballed center and positioning -Had my man hold up -Outlined inner rim of frame with pencil -Handed painted with the grey -Stick em all up with the 3M command strips. Super easy -NOTE: Technically supposed to let paint dry for several days before hanging 3M strips which I also recommend at least a day as the strips will fall off.

Welcome to our first project of the Summer Style Soiree! If you're new here, I'm so glad you're visiting. Many thanks to Heather from Southern State of Mind who is the mastermind behind this little series and challenged us to create some projects through the summer inspired by four famous fashion icons. We're starting off today with the beautiful Audrey Hepburn! Well, my choice is no big surprise, but this image of Audrey inspired my project: via She was a lover of black and white stripes too. She also had a number of fun quotes, and I chose a line out of this one to highlight. via I started with a thick 18" canvas that I picked up at the thrift store for a few dollars. Cute, but I had other plans for it. I think cashier was a little dismayed when I told her I'd be painting over it. I knew I wanted to have some variation in the lettering, and for the emphasized words to have a colorful, abstract feel. I started by making off the section of canvas where those words would be, and covering it with a variety of colors. No rhyme or reason, just spots of paint. After allowing that to fully dry, I adhered some large scrapbook stickers for the words "Happy" and "Prettiest." Then, sprayed the entire canvas white. After allowing for drying time again, I used Frog Tape to mark off stripes and then sprayed black. Two striped projects in one week! Shortly following the final coat of black, I peeled the tape and large stickers off. The tip of an exacto knife is helpful in lifting the corners of the letters if your letters are stuck down really well. Full disclosure if you want to try a project like this: these stickers didn't stick very well to the canvas, so there were some messy edges. A few touch-ups with a small brush fixed it right up. Finally, I used these to complete the phrase. I had planned to paint the gold lettering as well, but when I saw these stickers I decided to take the easy route for this part. Unlike the larger letters, these DID stick well. Just about finished, I thought it needed something more. With Kayla's cute project fresh on my mind, I added a few thumbtacks to the edges. When I planned this project, I had in mind to hang it in my daughter's room or bathroom as a reminder that there's no better accessory than a smile. However, I'm not sure it will make it back there as I'm really enjoying it in the hall next to our powder bath! Be sure to stop by these blogs too and see some other fun Audrey inspired projects!
