Stev’nn Hall (previously) blends photography and painting together in an impressionistic style, often focusing his works on the rural landscapes of his Canadian home, or images of flowers he takes in his studio. The pieces are built from images shot with a 35mm camera, and feature gestures on the surface in the mediums of acrylic, ink, and pastel. These markings serve as both complements to the landscapes and abstract bits of scrawl, simultaneously pushing the underlying photograph to appear more like a painting, and Hall’s painted additions to seem like photographic errors. This work was painted during the period which saw the apex of the artist's mature style and sets a tender and atmospheric tone. A sense of understated mystery pervades, underscoring the artist's Symbolist roots. Le Sidaner meditates on the subject of light and colour, with the white tureen gently complimenting the warmth of the green ivy. The carefully constructed still life, set outdoors, is typical of Le Sidaner's oeuvre of this time as is the complete lack of figures: “he considered that the silent harmony of things is enough to evoke the presence of those who live among them. Indeed, such presences are felt throughout his works. Deserted they may be but never empty.” [Sotheby’s, New York - Oil on canvas, 100.5 x 80.5 cm]
Romanian painter Nicolae Vermont [1866-1932] was one of the masters of Romanian Realist painting and one of the most interesting painters, muralists and draftsmen of his time, as many viewed him as an associate of Stefan Luchian.
'A painting requires a little mystery, some vagueness, and some fantasy.' Edgar Degas Let's take a closer look at Edgar Degas' ballet dancers. It's a large body of work, containing around 1,500 paintings, sketches, pastels, and sculptures. Degas sums them up nicely in the above quote. I cover: Edgar Degas, Ballet at the Paris Opera,
The main difference between Impressionism and Post Impressionism is that impressionism is the art movement that originated in the late 19th century France whereas post-impressionism is the art movement that originated as a response to impressionism in France during the same century.
American painter Scott Mattlin is an artist with a deep and passionate appreciation for beauty in the natural world and within the human spirit. This enthusiastic and sensitive joy is reflected strongly in his artwork. His work is executed in a vibrant, impressionistic style, which - while still retaining its representational roots, incorporates abstract elements, resulting in a uniquely contemporary union.

Bato Dugarzhapov (1966 -) Russian impressionist painter. After discovering and sharing Eduard Manet’s legacy and before returning to printed matters meet this Russian painter. Selecting 16 out of the odd 300 I found on the Internet an impossible and unthankful task. Just ask me to “publish” 16 more. Born in Chita in the far far East of Russia, north of China and north of Mongolia maybe explaining his “wide angle” vision and why so many of his compositions are painted against the light. For photographers, besides the most interesting, creative and challenging also the most difficult light to pursue and catch. This selection a few my favorites. To get you interested in case, like me, you’ve never heard of him before. Now you have. 250+ to go. (Paris, Seine bookstall and banks) (Thaw) Konstantin Korovin (1861-1934) is considered the Russian Claude Monet (1840-1926). He was a contemporary of Monet. A century later Bato Durgazhapov taking Impressionism beyond Monet and Korovin. His picking up Light with a brush from his soft pastel pallet is extraordinary. Some of his painting almost “go completely abstract” but squeezing the eyelids against the sun the scene eventually emerges from the canvas. Comparing one can find examples of practically all stages of Monet’s artistic lifetime evolution. The same goes for Korovin . He must have studied both painters intensively. Korovin once was director of the Moskow Art School where Bato D. was a student a century later. His paintings are of course way out of my financial range but discovering him made me a richer man. Hopefully there will be a book in future. In my lifetime. See the gull in the sky !! The Garden Wall - Ron Hicks American painter b.1965- Impressionism
Luncheon of the Boating Party by Pierre-Auguste Renoir remains the best known and most popular work of art at The Phillips Collection, just as Duncan Phillips imagined it would be when he bought it in 1923. The painting captures an idyllic atmosphere as Renoir's friends share food, wine, and conversation on a balcony overlooking the Seine at the Maison Fournaise restaurant in Chatou. Parisians flocked to the Maison Fournaise to rent rowing skiffs, eat a good meal, or stay the night. The painting also reflects the changing character of French society in the mid- to late 19th century. The restaurant welcomed customers of many classes, including businessmen, society women, artists, actresses, writers, critics, seamstresses, and shop girls. This diverse group embodied a new, modern Parisian society. [Phillips Collection - Oil on canvas, 51.25 x 69.125 inches]

Emilie Mediz-Pelikan (Austrian, 1861 – 1908): View of the cliff in Luino on a sunny day (via Zeller)
Immerse yourself in the vibrant hues and expressive energy of a piece that captures the stunning essence of the Scottish Isles. This evocative print brings to life the picturesque landscape of the Inner Hebrides as seen through the lens of Modern Impressionism, offering viewers a dynamic and contemporary vision of Scotland's natural beauty. Bold, impasto brushstrokes convey the raw texture of the isles' rugged terrain. The foreground features an array of richly coloured rocks, bathed in a play of light and shadow that suggests the unique atmosphere of Isle of Skye's less-travelled companions. Warm oranges and fiery reds contrast with cool purples and blues, creating a harmonious interplay that echoes the natural juxtaposition of land and sea. The translucence of the water is rendered through a mosaic of teal, azure, and cobalt, dancing and shimmering under a radiant sun. The sun itself—rendered with a bold, geometric approach—majestically descends towards the horizon in an explosion of light that fractures the sky into shades of lavender, pink, and soft yellow. In the distance, the silhouettes of the serene hills and peaks rise gently against the sky's gradient, their contours softened by the ethereal glow of dusk. This scene of tranquil splendour invites contemplation and reverie, while the rich palette and impressionistic flair infuse it with a sense of modern vitality. This print is a testament to the enduring allure of the Scottish landscapes, offering art lovers and dreamers alike a chance to bring the resplendent charm of the Isles into their own space. Whether displayed in a home, office, or gallery, it promises to captivate and inspire with its luminous interpretation of one of Scotland's most cherished regions.
