The impact of traditional media is greatly challenged by citizen journalism, which presents contrasting viewpoints and storylines that might not align with the objectives of mainstream media. It has changed the traditional media environment, bringing new voices to the forefront, speeding up how fast news spreads, and getting more people involved in the conversation (Yellowbrick, 2024). According to Pew Research Centre (2017), 67% of Americans now get their news through social media, indicating a dramatic shift away from traditional news sources such as newspapers and television (Luo & Harrison, 2019). This shows how citizen journalism is shaping the consumption of news by the general public.
