Artistic embossed designs decorate this Lincrusta wall covering. Lincrusta, an inexpensive alternative to tooled leather, was popular in Victorian homes for walls and border treatments. The crackled finish seen on the woodwork is characteristic of old Shellac finishes and can be rejuvenated with a careful application of denatured alcohol. Some faux wood graining was also found during our visit. Rich interior finishes were hallmarks of Victorian era mansions like the Cross House.
