Cicely Mary Barker was born Croydon, South London in 1895, and died in 1973. Owing to ill health she was educated at home, and taught herself to draw and paint in oils watercolours and pastel. Her flower Fairy books first published in 1923 brought her International acclaim as an Artist. The delicate charm of her illustrations and her botanical accuracy has captured the hearts of both children and adults for over 80 years.
