BFC Burberry competition. Shortlisted. IKEBANA AND ZEN Zen and the way of Flower My concept is based around the Japanese state of Zen fused with the traditional Japanese art of flower arrangement. (Ikebana). Ikebana is a disciplined art form where nature and humanity are brought together. It’s more than just the idea of arranging flowers as a collection of parti-coloured or multi-coloured blooms. Instead Ikebana emphasises on the stems and leaves and draws emphasis towards shape, line and form. The artists’ intention behind each arrangement is shown through colour combinations, neutral shapes, graceful lines and the implied meaning of the arrangement. Minimalism is a key focus in Ikebana. The arrangement may consist of a minimal number of blooms interspersed amongst stalks and leaves and the arrangement is based on a scalene triangle. The spiritual aspect of practising Ikebana is that one becomes more patient and is atune with nature, providing relaxation for the mind, body and soul; Zen in other words through the vast concentration.
