As part of the Buddhist New Year celebrations, there is a "sunning of the Buddha" at each Tibetan Buddhist monastery. A huge painting on cloth of the Buddha (about 30 meters high and 25 meters wide) is carried on the shoulders of 50 or more young men of the village (painting rolled up like a carpet). The painting is called a "tangka". It is displayed in the sun for one hour, which is the holiest hour of the year for the believers. (The rest of the year it's kept in the dark, rolled up in the monastery.) This old woman went with her family to see the sunning of the Buddha. She was very friendly.
