You can have the sharpest strategy in the world, but if your team doesn’t understand it, it’s going nowhere. Here’s how to communicate your strategy so it actually sticks: 1. Start With the Big Picture Before you dive into the details, set the stage. What’s the purpose? What problem are you solving? What’s the impact? When people understand the why, they’re more likely to engage with the what. 2. Keep It Sharp A strategy that’s too complex to explain is too complex to execute. Strip it down to its core. What are the non-negotiables? What’s the focus? Make it so clear that anyone on your team can repeat it without hesitation. 3. Connect the Dots Your team doesn’t want a high-level statement that feels miles away from their day-to-day work. Show them how their role, their efforts, and their decisions fit into the bigger picture. If they can see their contribution, they’ll own their part. 4. Make it a Conversation Create space for your team to ask questions, share ideas, or even challenge assumptions. Buy-in happens when people feel heard, not when they’re told. 5. Repeat, Reinforce, Remind Talking about strategy once and expecting it to stick is like planting a seed and forgetting to water it. Reinforce the message in every update, every meeting, and every milestone. Progress should always tie back to the strategy. 6. Celebrate the Wins Along the Way Strategy gains momentum when people see it working. Share the wins—big and small—to show progress. It fuels belief, and belief fuels action.
