Tomorrow there is no school for anybody at Tomás y Valiente secondary school. The Headmaster has decided to have a break from all the hard work everybody is doing at our school! APRIL FOOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How did April Fool´s Day begin? Until the middle of the sixteenth century, France celebrated the New Year on the 1st April. Then in 1564, King Charles the Ninth decided to change this, and the New Year began on 1st January. The message about this change travelled through the country very slowly, and some people did not know about the change or they didn´t like it. When these people tried to give New Year presents on 1st April, other people laughed at them and called them" FOOLS" or stupid people. After this, 1st April was called All Fool´s Day, and later April Fool´s Day. In many countries it became a day to play jokes on the people and laugh at them. Some people play little jokes on their family and friends. They may change the time on their clocks or put salt in the sugar bowl so someone´s tea or coffee tastes awful, children at school put signs on the back of other children saying " KICK ME" or newspapers publish joke stories like Swiss Spaghetti trees!
