A worksheet to assist students in making meaning from the authors words in poetry. How to use this worksheet In the column under the heading “what the author wrote” pick some key sentences from a poem (in particular those that use poetic language in which the author does not directly say what is intended – similies, metaphor, personification etc), write these into the boxes underneath. In the column “What I think the author meant” students must write what they think that sentence means. Differentiation To differentiate allow lower ability students to draw what they envision when they hear that line in the poem and allow higher ability student to complete the sentences you choose and then choose their own sentences (this extends their thinking by making them search for poetic language and recognise when the author is not directly saying what they mean). ***************************************************************************** If you like this resource you might appreciate these great Grade 1 literacy resources >Words and Non Words - A Phonics Activity >Contractions Matching Turtles >Story Prompts for Grade 1 ***************************************************************************** Customer Tips: How to get TPT credit to use on future purchases: Please go to your My Purchases page (you may need to login).
