You hear the word "rustic" or "rustico" a lot in Spain and Italy. I've tried to find the definition for the style but without success. The thing that comes to my mind when I think of rustic is texture, bricks, polished wood and the beams. Many new foreign home owners I have met in this part of the world comment that they want their Spanish home to look 'rustic', and to achieve this they often buy at second hand markets and 'rastros' here furnish and decorate their home. Maybe 'rustico' here implies more than just terracotta and old wood, I think it could be re-cycling and conservation, totally in keeping with the old Spanish way of life in the countryside! The Spanish house below has features that I believe to be rustic, balanced with interesting, earthy and natural colours. Do you think my definition is correct?
