The Little Old Lady Vs. Camberwell Car-park. Mary Anne Campigil, 84, had her house compulsorily acquired by Camberwell Council in 1971 for a car-park expansion. Mary lived in her small weatherboard house for over 20 years and refused to move. Camberwell Council lost the case against Mary in 1974 with the supreme court ruling in her favour. Eventually the Council acquired the property after Mary's passing and sat where the Camberwell Market is held ever Sunday.
