Charming cross stitch pattern by the Heinrich Kuehn Company of Berlin, which existed between 1850 and 1914. Back in the days before color printing was commonplace, patterns like these were painstakingly made by filling in these pixel-like blocks - looks like gouache to me. This is a particularly charming pattern of two lovers meeting, the man is hiding a bouquet behind his back and the woman is looking a bit astonished even before it is presented. Wonderfully romantic, this is in fair to good condition, with wear around the edges and a fold across the man's coat, please see in all the photos. It is also signed by a former owner, who did not herself do the painting - she came later, in the twentieth century. This was produced between 1879 and 1914 (1879 is the latest date in one of the medallions you see at top). Total dimension including the raggedy edges: 11 5/8" x 8 1/2" Live area containing the couple: 8 " x 5 1/2" Shipped flat in acid free tissue paper sleeve between two sheets of corrugated cardboard, priority.
