Megan's Munchkins (Megan's World) (Volume 1) by Ms. Pamela Foland is a cute fiction book about a young teenage girl and her adventures with animals. Megan's Munchkins begins with an introduction to Megan, a young teenager who happens to find tiny day-old kittens. Not wanting to leave them to die, Megan decides to take them back to her own room in her parents' house and raise them in secret. What follows is determination and dedication on Megan’s part as she raises the four kittens in her closet, researches and finds out about their needs, prepares their formula and other necessities, along with managing her school work and keeping the kittens hidden from her parents. Ultimately, Megan’s parents find out and are not happy to hear that Megan has been doing this behind their backs. But Megan convinces them with her maturity and sense of responsibility, and willingness to do her part at home and in school so that, in the end, all's well that ends well. Megan's Munchkins (Megan's World) (Volume 1) by Ms. Pamela Foland is a great story about a young teenage girl and her coming-of-age in a certain sense into a world of responsibilities. I enjoyed reading about Megan and her kittens and found the part about caring for the kittens to be cute and endearing. I also think a story like this promotes a healthy self-image among young adults, especially girls, because Megan is portrayed as a steady, sensible girl who handles her responsibilities and chores well. In turn, she develops self-respect which her parents can’t help but notice either. This is an easy to read and simple story that even younger children would enjoy reading.
