Preparing for a baby's arrival is one of the most fulfilling "jobs" a Mother can do. There is something wonderful about fixing up a space (no matter how large or small) for a child you look forward to raising. This is my 4th time to tackle such an endeavor, and I have enjoyed each moment...thinking about her sweet face during the whole process. You may remember this post about my "plans" and "ideas" for Baby Girl's room. My ideas have evolved over the months, and I have enjoyed where the journey has taken me. First of all, we decided not to paint. The existing paint was good enough to leave alone, and would coordinate well with my color scheme. Brian put a coat of white on the ceiling, and that was the extent of it. Because I wanted a stencil of a tree on the wall, I had done some research. I had found a few that I liked, all ranging from $40.00 to $100.00. I felt that it was a bit steep for a white tree! So, I decided to ignore the fact that I am the farthest thing from an artist, and plunge into the world of "tree painting." We had some leftover white paint from a previous project, and so I proceeded with my plan. First of all, I found a tree I liked online, and sketched a basic template in pencil. Then, with the help of my eager assistants, I proceeded to cover my template with white paint. You may notice the look on Brian's face. He was incredibly surprised that I was allowing our girls anywhere near that wall. But, he did compliment me later on allowing them to be a part of the memory. :) So proud... Ecstatic to be helping Mom! Because of our change of plans, we saved some money on the room... And, I persuaded Brian that my dream of having a small chandelier in our baby's room was not crazy, but in fact totally feasible! We found this affordable, little beauty at Lowes...and I LOVE it! The softness of the room makes me happy every time I enter... I filled some of the shelves with frames that hold pictures of Baby Girl's older siblings, but they will be replaced with pictures that include "her" in the scene! I found this adorable Dress Frame "jewelry holder" on clearance at Michaels... The Topiaries were also from Michaels, one bought with a coupon one week, and one bought on clearance another week. I love strategic planning! Now, to explain the crib... We have not transformed it back into a crib since Jack was using it as a toddler bed, and will be fixing it soon! The bed skirt was one I had and it is actually a full sized one. So, I made it work for this room. I have a white bumper pad that has been used with most of my kids and will be on this crib soon. You may remember me talking about finding the middle pillow cover on Etsy a while back. Well, when I decided to go with a light blue/turquoise color in the room, I searched on Etsy again. I found these in a lovely shop all the way from England. And, this is the funny part...they were actually cheaper than the ones from the States! They are gorgeous and top quality...I was so thrilled that Baby Girl will have something from England in her room.... :) Thankfully, I already had the pillow forms, so that was easy! Also, these pillows may actually end up as part of a window seat in this room. The window seat idea is one that has been dreamed, but has never materialized, mostly because I. Cant. Sew. I found frames at Michaels (once again) on clearance...these were matted frames and they cost only $4.99! I was so excited. I then found some scrapbook paper on clearance and used two of my favorite prints to add some color and life to the room. More clearance items... from... Michaels! I am a huge fan of sales... And, I mention the clearance and sale items to make a point... Decorating a room to your desires is possible, but does require patience...and extra trips! All of the items I have purchased for this room have been slowly added as I have found my good deals. While it might be fun to walk into a store and buy whatever your heart desires at that exact moment, I think that part of the joy is in the hunt! Her changing table is stocked and ready... We owned this bookshelf and it had been painted a dark brown color. I decided to be daring and try a nice turquoise color. Brian did the honors, and the result is one of my favorite parts of the room! This adorable card was given to me by a friend at my recent Baby Shower. I had to frame it and place it in the room! I hope you enjoyed your tour! I've been told that this is the week I should probably pack "the bag," so I better get started thinking about that! :)
